Accelecom Challenges KCNA's Claims on KentuckyWired Project Mismanagement

Accelecom and the KentuckyWired Controversy

In a recent press release, Accelecom has publicly condemned the Kentucky Communications Network Authority (KCNA) for what it characterizes as a deceptive portrayal of the KentuckyWired project. According to Accelecom, KCNA has mishandled the initiative, leading to significant financial losses for the state and unnecessary confusion among residents about the project's status.

The Allegations Against KCNA

Accelecom argues that KCNA is attempting to blame external parties for its failures rather than taking responsibility. The company alleges that KCNA has consistently mismanaged the project, revealing a pattern of incompetence. Specifically, Accelecom claims that KCNA has failed to maintain critical infrastructure, forcing Accelecom to intervene and invest millions to replace essential systems.

Despite KCNA's allegations regarding a lack of wholesale customers, Accelecom states it has successfully established relationships with 44 wholesale customers for both dark-fiber and lit services, directly contradicting KCNA's claims. In fact, Accelecom highlights that there are numerous pending dark-fiber sales transactions that KCNA has improperly delayed, indicating that KCNA's communication may not reflect the true state of affairs.

Breach of Agreement

Moreover, the release states that KCNA has repeatedly violated the terms of their Wholesaler Agreement. Accelecom alleges that KCNA has denied them access to connections that had been reviewed extensively and then canceled the contract amid ongoing disputes, including those being contested legally. This raises questions about KCNA's commitment to adhering to contracts that crucially influence Kentucky's digital infrastructure.

In a striking turn of events, after running out of budget due to continuous cost overruns, KCNA allegedly began giving away thousands of miles of dark fiber to third parties, further complicating the landscape of the KentuckyWired project. Accelecom claims that the amount of dark fiber relinquished is staggering, greatly exceeding what the state expected Accelecom to sell during the contract's lifespan.

A Plea for Accountability

Despite these challenges, Accelecom remains committed to the KentuckyWired project, asserting their willingness to continue providing necessary services and honoring their contractual obligations. They emphasize that the fears of disconnection from essential service providers like hospitals and schools stem from KCNA's mismanagement. Accelecom calls on citizens and business owners to hold KCNA accountable and stresses the urgency of addressing these issues to revive the KentuckyWired project before it is too late.

The Way Forward

Accelecom's management continues to advocate for the project's viability, believing that it is still possible to recover and improve the infrastructure critical for Kentucky’s advanced communication needs. As they await a resolution to their disputes and continued cooperation with KCNA, the company aims to uphold its mission to bridge the digital divide and enhance connectivity across the region. Accelecom invites stakeholders, including concerned citizens, to engage in dialogue and work collaboratively to ensure the project's success.
