RoboParty Unveils the RP1: An Open Source High-Performance Humanoid Robot

RoboParty Unveils the RP1: A Game-Changer in Humanoid Robotics

On September 28, 2026, at the IROS 2026 conference, RoboParty introduced the RP1 (ROBOTO 01), marking its global debut as a cutting-edge, open-source humanoid robot. This launch follows the previous project, RPO (ROBOTO ORIGIN), which generated significant interest on platforms like GitHub, amassing over 2,500 stars since its initiation in January 2026.

The RP1 is distinguished as the world’s first high-performance, full-stack open-source bipedal robot specifically crafted for a diverse range of users including researchers, educators, robotics developers, and teams specializing in embodied AI. Early demonstrations of the RP1's capabilities took place during the event, where visitors participated in an interactive session called “Kick Me.” In this setup, attendees pushed and kicked the robot, prompting it to demonstrate remarkable stability and recovery techniques, essential indicators of its dynamic performance.

At the core of RP1’s capabilities lies PartyOS, RoboParty’s integrated open research platform designed for humanoid robotics. This platform leverages an innovative training framework called UFO, which allows humanoids to learn motor skills through unsupervised reinforcement learning. The system effectively manages skill transitions, disturbance recovery, and fall recovery without relying on pre-defined movement paths, showcasing the capabilities and adaptability of the RP1.

RoboParty has seamlessly integrated the robot's chassis, actuator modules, low-level control systems, and embodied AI algorithms into a unified system, thereby enabling continuous validation of performance metrics. The RP1 boasts an impressive joint maximum torque of up to 160 N•m, driven by RoboParty's internally developed Romomo actuator modules and a real-time motion control system.

According to Yi Huang, the founder of RoboParty, the term “open-source full-stack” extends beyond merely sharing mechanical design files. The company is committed to gradually releasing its motion control systems, simulation environments, SDKs, training tools, and the PartyOS development platform. This initiative aims to provide developers with comprehensive access to all stages of robotic development, from hardware and low-level control to model training and deployment.

“Humanoid robots should not be closed systems that only a few teams can build; rather, we envision the RP1 as an open foundation that developers can engage with, modify, and continuously improve,” stated Huang. The RP1 is built upon the validated open-source body from RPO and operates using a carefully crafted workflow that includes Romomo actuator modules and the dexterous RP Hand robotic system.

As PartyOS continues to evolve, advancements in humanoid locomotion, perceptual interaction, body-inclusive manipulation, and autonomous intelligent humanoids are on the horizon. The core team behind RoboParty comprises graduates from prestigious academic institutions, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Zhejiang University.

RoboParty has successfully built a global community of over 5,000 developers focused on humanoid robotics. The company has plans to announce further details regarding the RP1's open-source roadmap in October 2026, with upcoming software and hardware launches anticipated in the fourth quarter of this year.

You can find more information on RoboParty's GitHub page and their official website. The potential of the RP1 is not just limited to commercial applications; it could pave the way for advancements in robotics research, education, and development.
