GAC Leads Electric Vehicle Sales in Hong Kong, Accelerating Global Expansion Strategy

GAC Dominates EV Market in Hong Kong: A Sign of Global Expansion

In April 2026, GAC achieved a remarkable milestone by leading electric vehicle (EV) sales in Hong Kong, marking its spot as a major player in the region's automotive market. According to statistics from the Hong Kong Transport Department, GAC sold a total of 1,646 vehicles, with the majority being electric. Specifically, 1,596 of these units were battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while plug-in hybrids accounted for 50 units. This impressive performance gave GAC a market share of 12% in the first four months of 2026, establishing it firmly at the forefront of the EV sector.

GAC's triumph in Hong Kong is a testament to its robust growth momentum. Since the start of the year, the brand has consistently ranked among the top among Chinese manufacturers. The sales figures from January through February demonstrated GAC's competitive edge, achieving two of the top three spots in the region for Chinese brands. The momentum continued into March, with the wholesale volume nearing 2,000 units, showcasing a historical surge.

The company’s leadership in Hong Kong is a result of its strategic 'Hong Kong ACTION' plan, initiated in 2025. In this plan, GAC positioned Hong Kong as a strategic hub for right-hand drive markets and as a foreign showcase platform. The plan integrates four key components: products, supply, services, and branding, allowing GAC to develop a well-rounded business model that resonates with local consumers.

However, GAC's success isn't limited to Hong Kong. On a global scale, the company is experiencing unprecedented growth. In the first four months of 2026, GAC’s exports skyrocketed to 70,474 units, a significant increase of 133.9% compared to the previous year. This trajectory not only leads the industry in growth but also emphasizes GAC's commitment to expanding its international presence.

Moreover, GAC has carved out strong positions in key markets around the world, making significant inroads in Thailand's electric taxi segment, achieving the status of the top Chinese brand in Saudi Arabia, and leading the market with its M8 model in the UAE. The company is not just focused on selling vehicles; it aims to establish itself deeply within different lifestyles and cultures abroad. This approach reflects a transition from merely “selling cars” to “planting roots,” integrating more seamlessly into local markets.

GAC’s global strategy is clearly aimed at writing a new chapter for ‘Chinese smart manufacturing’ on the world stage. As the company continues to innovate and adapt to various market demands, it looks poised to maintain its leadership position across both local and international landscapes.
