Asakusa Hanayashiki's Revitalized Rooftop Garden
As the oldest amusement park in Japan, Asakusa Hanayashiki has long been a beloved destination in Tokyo. Established in 1853 during the late Edo period, it was originally designed as a flower garden. Recently, this iconic park has transformed its rooftop garden into a vibrant green space, featuring 87 different plant species, thanks to the careful planning and execution by Daiichi Engei, a leading horticultural company.
The design of the newly renovated garden merges tradition with a playful spirit, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. The rooftop is adorned with a rich variety of seasonal flowers and trees, emphasizing the beauty of nature while ensuring visitors can enjoy a peaceful retreat amid the urban backdrop of Asakusa. This project reflects Daiichi Engei's longstanding expertise in horticulture and its commitment to enhancing public spaces.
A Colorful Palette of Nature
The garden now features 87 diverse plant types, allowing visitors to appreciate the changing colors and scents of seasonal flora. The design integrates artificial turf to provide a safe area for children to play while adults can relax in various seating spots. One highlight of the rooftop garden is an observation area that offers stunning views of the Asakusa scenery, complete with photo opportunities surrounded by the rich collection of plants.
In every corner, visitors can discover playful elements like the floor design featuring the “Bulb God” Bra-bo-san, adding an enjoyable layer of exploration to their visit. The space encourages guests to immerse themselves in nature while finding little surprises on each visit.
Accessibility and Comfort
To ensure everyone can enjoy this beautiful oasis, Daiichi Engei has implemented a barrier-free route using wooden decks that invite guests to stroll and unwind. The warmth of the wood complements the seasonal displays of flowers, creating an inviting atmosphere for relaxation.
Celebrating with Cherry Blossoms
In a gesture to commemorate the reopening, a cherry blossom tree (Mamezakura) will be planted in the rooftop garden. This addition symbolizes growth and new beginnings, while continuing the garden's legacy of nurturing flora and providing beauty for all its visitors.
On March 20th, to celebrate the new beginning, the park will gift the first 250 visitors with fresh spring flowers, including bulb plants linked to the park's tradition of good fortune in love. This act aims to foster community and share the joy of this revitalized space.
