University of Exeter Honors Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi



In a remarkable ceremony held on July 30, 2025, the University of Exeter granted the first-ever Honorary President's Medal to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah. This accolade recognizes Sheikh Sultan's substantial contributions to higher education, research, and academic collaboration, particularly between the UAE and the United Kingdom.

Historical Significance of the Occasion



The event marked not only an academic recognition but also a celebration of long-standing educational ties between the two regions. During his visit, Sheikh Sultan, who holds the rank of Member of the UAE Supreme Council, laid the foundation for a new addition to the university—the Al Qasimi Building. This facility aims to expand the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies and further deepen the educational and cultural links that already exist.

Reflecting on his time at Exeter, Sheikh Sultan remarked, “This distinguished institution welcomed me as a student over forty years ago. It remains a part of my intellectual and personal journey.” His PhD achievement in 1985 underscores his lifelong connection with the university and highlights Exeter's impact on his scholarly pursuits.
