On December 13, 2023, a remarkable event took place at the Ueno Toshogu Shrine—an initiative aimed at preserving Japanese culinary culture and showcasing the nutritional benefits of black soybeans. This event marked the revival of the ceremonial offering of black soybeans to the shrine, a tradition that had been absent for 160 years since it was last performed during the Edo period. The ceremony was organized by the Black Soybean Donation Executive Committee, which includes prominent sponsors such as Odagaki Shoten, the Tanba Sasayama Tourism Association, and Fujikko Corporation, with support from various local organizations.
