MottECO FESTA 2026: A Culinary Experience to Combat Food Waste
Japan Hotel Co., Ltd. is proud to announce its participation in the upcoming food waste reduction event,
MottECO FESTA 2026, which will take place on
July 27 at the Hotel Metropolitan Edmont. This initiative, hosted by the MottECO Promotion Consortium, aims to raise awareness about food waste and promote effective sustainability practices through a series of engaging activities.
At our booth, attendees can explore six vital themes:
consumption efficiency, reusability, takeout options, recycling, and advocacy. Each theme showcases how the hotel industry contributes to reducing food waste. One of the main attractions will include a tasting corner where the talented chefs from Tokyo Station Hotel, Hotel Metropolitan Ikebukuro, and Hotel Metropolitan Edmont will offer their exclusive
“Mottai-nai Menu” as well as upcycled baked goods. Participants can experience food waste reduction firsthand through tasting, seeing, and learning about these innovative dishes.
Since 2019, Japan Hotel has been advocating measures to minimize food waste, including the
3010 Movement encouraging complete utilization of ingredients in banquet events. In addition to creating the waste-conscious
“Mottai-nai Menu,” the company implemented the
MottECO initiative in 2022 allowing guests to take home leftovers, further promoting sustainability within the industry. The corporate partnership in the MottECO Promotion Consortium—with academic, governmental, and civil society entities—has accelerated the push toward responsible food consumption practices. As a result of these efforts, Japan Hotel recorded
1,321 instances of MottECO usage in 2025, translating to approximately
330 kg of food waste reduction.
Now in its fourth iteration, MottECO FESTA 2026 is being endorsed by the Ministry of the Environment, the Consumer Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as a significant event to promote food waste reduction practices in Japan. The full-day program on July 27 will feature presentations from government agencies, food industry stakeholders, and academic institutions covering innovative practices and case studies. Attendees can look forward to lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions, and tasting opportunities.
