Subaru of America Reports January 2026 Sales

Subaru of America, Inc. recently shared their sales figures for January 2026, revealing a total of 42,157 vehicles sold. This figure signifies a 9.1% decline compared to the same month in the previous year. In a month marked by challenging weather conditions across many regions, the Subaru Forester stood out with exceptional performance, achieving its best January sales figures ever with 15,821 units sold.

Jeff Walters, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, explained that in today's market, customer priorities heavily hinge on safety and reliability. He highlighted that the Forester not only met these demands but also set a new sales record for January. Subaru recently began manufacturing the entire Forester model line at their facility in Indiana, marking a significant milestone in their production strategy.

In addition to accolades for the Forester, the Crosstrek followed as the second top-selling model, with 11,296 vehicles sold. The Outback also contributed to the numbers, with 8,283 units sold during this month, as the transition to 2026 models continues throughout the Subaru retailer network.

Subaru's resilience has been particularly evident during January's winter storms, which affected operations nationwide. Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales, praised the efforts of Subaru retailers, who continued to deliver outstanding customer service despite these disruptions.

The sales figures tell a story of both challenges and successes within the Subaru lineup. Here’s a breakdown of the performance of various models in January 2026 compared to January 2025:

  • - Ascent: 2,817 units sold, a decrease of 9.5%
  • - BRZ: 238 units sold, an increase of 6.3%
  • - Crosstrek: 11,296 units sold, a 10.5% decrease
  • - Forester: 15,821 units sold, a 22.2% increase

  • - Solterra: 572 units sold, a decrease of 45.6%
  • - WRX: 1,211 units sold, down by 23%

Overall, Subaru’s total sales fell by 9.1% year-over-year for January 2026, but the success of the Forester and continued efforts from retail partners underscore a commitment to customer satisfaction and adaptability in a fluctuating market.
