NVTC Unveils Strategic Vision for the Future

The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) made significant strides in steering the region's technological landscape during its 35th Annual Membership Meeting held on June 25, 2026. This pivotal event was marked by the launch of a comprehensive new strategic plan aimed at positioning Northern Virginia as a leader in the next era of innovation and included the election of new board leadership.

A Defining Moment for Technology

In light of the rapidly evolving technological environment defined by artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity challenges, and emerging technologies such as robotics and cloud computing, NVTC recognizes a critical moment for action. The organization emphasized that Northern Virginia is uniquely situated at the heart of this transformation, positioning itself well to take the lead in future innovations.

Jennifer Taylor, President and CEO of NVTC, stated, "Innovation doesn't stand still—and neither does NVTC. Our ambitious strategic plan positions NVTC for its next chapter of impact and reinforces our commitment to helping Northern Virginia lead in this next era of innovation. We've done it before, and we will do it again."

This new strategic plan builds upon the foundation that NVTC has established over the past 35 years. The organization has played an essential role in bridging gaps among leaders from various sectors, including business, government, academia, and nonprofits, through significant technological changes ranging from the rise of the internet to the current AI advancements.

NVTC's Strategic Priorities

The newly-defined mission of NVTC aims to convene and champion the technology community while pushing for innovation, a future-ready workforce, and lasting economic and societal impacts. Over the next three years, the organization will focus on the following strategic priorities:

1. Network – To forge a robust connection within the region's technology ecosystem.
2. Voice – To advocate and be the champion for the technology community.
3. Talent – To cultivate a workforce prepared to meet future demands.
4. Cultivate – To enhance engagement and provide exceptional value to members.

These priorities are essential as NVTC seeks to amplify its impact on the region's technology sector and enhance collaboration among stakeholders.

New Board Leadership

During the Annual Membership Meeting, significant leadership changes were announced, adding new perspectives and industry expertise to the Board of Directors. Twenty industry leaders were elected for the Class of 2029 Board of Directors, filling vacancies and appointing nine officers for a two-year term. Notably, Gil Dussek, CEO of Gunnison, was elected chair, emphasizing the board's readiness to tackle the challenges posed by the acceleration of technological advancements.

"As we celebrate this milestone, I am honored to serve as Chair at such a pivotal moment for our region and our organization," Dussek articulated during the meeting. He stressed that the rapid evolution of AI and other technologies presents unprecedented opportunities for Northern Virginia to thrive as a tech hub.

Upcoming Initiatives and Goals

The successful implementation of NVTC’s strategic initiatives is now entrusted to its experienced Board of Directors, coming together from various influential technology companies and organizations within the region. Their collective knowledge will guide NVTC in fostering initiatives that not only keep pace with international technological competitiveness but also solidify Northern Virginia's reputation as a premier technology ecosystem.

In an insightful session at the meeting, members heard from former Acting Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, David Shedd, who provided valuable insights into the intersection of technology innovation and the global competitive landscape.

As the Northern Virginia Technology Council steps into its next chapter, it will continue to play an integral role in orchestrating a thriving and pioneering future, wherein innovation permeates every sector and drives collective progress in the technology realm.
