PTC Unveils Latest AI-Driven Features in ALM with New Codebeamer Update

PTC has announced the release of significant updates to its Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) portfolio, specifically introducing Codebeamer® 3.2, Codebeamer AI™ 1.0, and Pure Variants™ 7.2. This release aims to bolster product data infrastructure specifically for software-led and regulated industries, tackling increased complexity and regulatory demands that organizations are currently facing.

With the recent updates, PTC's ALM suite enhances its capabilities in traceability, change management, and governance—all vital components that help organizations in regulated sectors advance their software development with greater confidence. Industries such as automotive, medical devices, governmental bodies, and aerospace & defense are set to benefit significantly as the updates improve their systems of record (SoR) for software development and requirements management.

Enrique Krajmalnik, General Manager for PTC's ALM business, emphasized the importance of having a robust environment where all changes, requirements, and decisions are interconnected throughout the lifecycle. He stated, "Our customers’ products are becoming increasingly complex, and the advancement of software necessitates confidence in the interconnectedness of every change, requirement, and decision throughout the lifecycle. Codebeamer 3.2, Codebeamer AI 1.0, and Pure Variants 7.2 support our customers in modernizing software development and requirements management while addressing this complexity effectively."

To assist engineers in meeting regulatory requirements while managing increasing complexity, the following features and enhancements have been introduced:

  • - Digital Thread Integration: Codebeamer now seamlessly integrates with PTC's PLM solution, Windchill®, and other enterprise systems. This integration enhances compliance across requirement tracking, change management, and the development of both software and hardware, thereby reducing manual efforts, improving interoperability, and minimizing risks while shortening delivery times.

  • - Stream Baselines: This feature allows for the preservation of all projects within a stream as snapshots, simplifying the identification of project status and streamlining change management across complex portfolios.

  • - Enhanced Review Hub UI: Improvements, such as bulk approvals/rejections and visually highlighted differences, accelerate the speed and accuracy of reviews.

  • - Feature-Based PLE: The automated generation of streams and stream baselines has been introduced, alongside a beta feature called Delta Merge, which supports parallel development across platforms and variants while optimizing reuse efficiency.

Building on these enhancements, Codebeamer AI 1.0 has introduced two AI assistants: the Requirements Assistant and the Test Case Assistant. Traditionally, maintaining high-quality, standards-compliant requirements depended on manual review, often leading to ambiguities, inconsistencies, and delays in work. The Requirements Assistant automatically detects quality issues in requirements based on INCOSE and ISTQB guidelines, reducing dependency on expert reviews and enabling quicker creation of clearer, standards-compliant requirements. Conversely, the manual creation of test cases can be time-consuming and error-prone. The Test Case Assistant automates the generation and optimization of test cases directly from requirements, thereby enhancing precision and consistency, strengthening traceability, and speeding up validation efforts.

Joseph June, Global AI Innovation Leader at PTC, remarked, "We developed Codebeamer AI to simplify and streamline time-consuming tasks in the requirements development process. By aligning with engineers in real-time, Codebeamer AI clarifies and maintains consistency in daily decisions, empowering teams to respond with confidence and speed to the demands of modern software-driven product development."

Codebeamer and Pure Variants are part of PTC’s broader endeavor to support the vision of an Intelligent Product Lifecycle (IPL). This vision is designed to help manufacturing and product companies build robust product data infrastructures that extend the value of that data throughout the enterprise and enable transformation through AI. Moreover, by collaborating with other AI solutions like Windchill AI and ServiceMax® AI, Codebeamer AI allows companies to scale their AI-driven transformations with confidence.
