Innovative Achievement in Entrepreneurship

Lone Tree, Colorado, has produced a standout student entrepreneur, Anirudh Rao, who has secured a place among the top finalists in the renowned Mott Million Dollar Challenge. This national pitch competition, which encourages K-12 students, saw over 3,700 participants from across the United States and Washington, D.C., but only 60 were chosen to advance to the finals, taking place on June 15-16 in Flint, Michigan.

A Unique Idea

Anirudh’s invention, named Mirai, is a groundbreaking moisture-powered nano generator that captures humidity from the air and transforms it into usable electricity. This innovative solution serves as a sustainable alternative to traditional electrochemical batteries. The design focuses on utilizing a graphene oxide membrane on a fiberglass substrate, which generates voltage when water molecules flow through nanoscale pores. The electricity produced is amplified by custom circuitry, making it usable for various environmental and health sensors.

Tackling Environmental Challenges

Mirai addresses several pressing concerns, including battery waste, environmental degradation, fire hazards, affordability, and accessibility. By relying on moisture as a power source, Anirudh aims to minimize the reliance on disposable batteries, which contribute to pollution and waste. Furthermore, he has created working prototypes using 3D-printed components, showcasing the feasibility of his project.
