Ecostore Expands ecofill Station with Four New Refill Pack Options

Ecostore Japan, based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has recently announced an expansion of its ecofill automatic detergent refill system, introducing four new dedicated refill pack options. Initially, ecofill offered just one refill pack, but to improve product visibility and user convenience at home, the company now provides tailored packaging for each of the four refillable products. With this initiative, Ecostore aims to promote a sustainable lifestyle while making the service more accessible to a wider audience.

ecofill Station
The ecofill system represents a pioneering effort by Ecostore to bring the “bulk selling” culture to Japan. Launched in November 2024, the ecofill refill stations are currently available at three locations in the country, well-aligned with the company’s mission to reduce packaging waste by providing customers the chance to refill their detergent without creating unnecessary plastic waste.

Background of the Initiative

Initially, users faced challenges when identifying which product was in which pack, as a single design was used for all four ecofill products. This limitation led to inconvenience for customers during daily use. Each refill was marked with a label that needed to be checked to identify the contents. To address this issue, Ecostore introduced four distinct designs of refill packs, each corresponding to a different ecofill product. This enhancement not only aligns the pack's design with the product but also facilitates easy identification for customers.

New Pack Details

The new dedicated packs are designed for the following products:
  • - Laundry Liquid
  • - Fabric Softener
  • - Delicate & Wool Wash
  • - Dish Wash Liquid
Each of these packs is priced at 385 yen (tax included). These products are available at ecofill-enabled stores including Ecostore Atre Ebisu, Cosme Kitchen Gran Tree Musashi Kosugi, and Biople Nagareyama Ootaka no Mori Shopping Center.

Ecofill System and Its Features

The ecofill system allows customers to refill their detergent automatically, significantly cutting down on packaging waste due to repeated use of the dedicated packs. The process is simple: customers can select their desired quantity, set the pack into the refill machine, and the system automatically fills it, reducing the risk of spills. Once emptied, the packs can be flattened for easy transport, adding further convenience to the eco-conscious consumer.

Key Advantages of ecofill

  • - Simplified Refill Process: Refilling is quicker and more user-friendly compared to traditional refill stations. No need to remove caps or deal with spills while selecting the desired amount.
  • - Leak-Proof Design: The dedicated packs minimize the risk of leakage, making it easy to transport without worry.
  • - Compact and Eco-Friendly: The design allows for easy folding of empty packs, promoting a clutter-free lifestyle where fewer materials are needed.

Ecostore emphasizes that using these refill packs not only saves money but also contributes positively to the environment. By reducing waste and promoting a sustainable practice, the ecofill system embodies the brand’s core philosophy of caring for both skin and the environment.
