Vibrant Garden-Inspired Cottages: A Unique Collaboration at Nantucket

A Vibrant Emergence at the Nantucket Hotel & Resort

In a dazzling intersection of fashion and interior design, Michael Kramer, a noted interior designer from New York City, has collaborated with the iconic fashion brand Lilly Pulitzer to unveil two exquisite, garden-inspired private cottages at the historic Nantucket Hotel & Resort. This partnership, which merges sophisticated patterns with the island's natural elegance, is set to redefine the experience at this famed resort.

This is not the first foray for Lilly Pulitzer into experiential design with the hospitality group, Little Gem Resorts. Previous collaborations have included a charming summer cottage at The Winnetu Oceanside Resort located in Martha's Vineyard as well as an exclusive Lilly-Villa at the Lovango Resort and Beach Club in the United States Virgin Islands. However, the recent project at Nantucket stands out due to its unique blend of local charm and vibrant style.

The cottages serve as a testament to Lilly Pulitzer's commitment to creating lively, immersive experiences. Utilizing a new collection of Lilly Pulitzer fabrics and wall coverings by Lee Jofa, these cottages are designed to reflect floral and coastal inspirations that are engaging and visually captivating. Just outside the main hotel, the private cottages have been enlivened by Benjamin Moore’s rich color palette, transforming them into true havens of comfort and craftsmanship.

Each cottage gleams with bold hues and intricate designs that not only respect the unique heritage of Nantucket but also embrace the modern guest's desire for comfort and luxury. Suzanne Cohen, the Chief Marketing Officer for Lee Jofa, mentioned how the curated selection of prints plays a pivotal role in enhancing the design narrative. The cottage's decor artfully combines whimsical floral patterns across custom headboards, drapery, and accents—culminating in a story that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

Interior Features and Artistic Touches

The first of the two cottages, featuring two bedrooms, exhibits a unique floral identity in different rooms, beautifully connected by a common living area boasting a hand-shelled fireplace crafted by Lilly Pulitzer. This space, perfect for cozy evenings, is highlighted through a Benjamin Moore sand-tone called “Straw Hat,” which creates a neutral backdrop allowing the vibrant colors to come alive. A hand-painted mural in the kitchen, created by Lilly Pulitzer's artistic team, brings to life the bold aesthetics everywhere in the cottage, enhancing its overall charm.

In the second, more intimate one-bedroom cottage, Kramer has opted for Benjamin Moore’s “bird's egg blue” to saturate the walls, creating a serene ambiance. The vibrant floral textiles and wall coverings - evident in the pillows, custom window treatments, and entryway mural - contribute to an enveloping sense of color. This emphasis on a timeless color scheme has been elevated using high-quality Benjamin Moore paints, ensuring that the hues resonate with both nostalgia and contemporariness.

The design doesn't shy away from playful patterns, revealed in the use of custom Pooky Lighting sconces that enrich the maximalist feel of the space. Additionally, charming art pieces adorn the walls, including images of Lilly Pulitzer herself, along with exclusive works from Lilly Pulitzer x Nick Mele, combining art with vibrant decor to create an unforgettable experience for guests.

A Celebration of Lifestyle and Legacy

Kramer articulates his vision for the cottages: “We wanted these cottages to feel like garden parties you never want to leave. They're playful but sophisticated, designed for the guest who wants luxury and personality in equal measure.” Mira Fain, Lilly Pulitzer's Chief Creative Officer, highlighted the importance of Nantucket as a resort town where the Lilly brand has deep roots within the community. The new cottages merge Lilly's signature prints with an exquisite color palette, capturing the essence of resort life.

This collaboration not only marks a significant moment in blending interior design with lifestyle branding but also showcases how spaces can engage meaningfully with their locales. The cottages are designed with bold branding elements, featuring custom hand towels and bed linens that keep the identity of Lilly Pulitzer at the forefront.

Gwenn Snider, the hotel owner, expressed enthusiasm regarding the project: “The hotel enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to redesign our east cottages and collaborate with Benjamin Moore, Lee Jofa, and Lilly Pulitzer, unveiling this seaside-inspired partnership.”

Starting July 17, guests can begin booking their stays at these beautifully designed cottages after exclusive walkthrough events during Nantucket By Design. These cottages promise a unique getaway that is both enchanting and rich in the vibrant heritage associated with Lilly Pulitzer.
