Jilin Province's Cultural Exchange Sparks Interest in Hungary and Spain
In a significant cultural initiative, Jilin Province in northeastern China has made strides in strengthening ties with Hungary and Spain. This outreach, part of China’s broader commitment to global cooperation, aims to enhance mutual understanding and enrich civilizations through cultural and tourism exchanges.
The recent visit by a cultural delegation from Jilin to both Hungary and Spain marks a notable occasion as it coincides with the 20th anniversary of the strategic partnership between China and Spain, along with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. This alignment enhances the relevance of Jilin’s offerings in the context of international relations.
During their visit, the delegation showcased Jilin's rich tourism potential and secured various projects related to culture, tourism, and media. The intention is to foster mutual benefits and understanding among the populations involved. Jilin Province is also focused on leveraging its natural resources and developing its industrial base to attract foreign investors and visitors. Known as the cradle of the Chinese automotive industry, Jilin has a history of innovation, being home to the country's first automobile workshop established in 1953.
The province's partnership with Germany in the automotive sector during the early 1990s further solidified its manufacturing capabilities. Currently, Jilin's industrial structure is remarkably diverse, covering every major category of manufacturing and including many critical sectors.
Culturally, Jilin is home to the Changchun Film Studio, which boasts an eighty-year history and is regarded as the birthplace of the Chinese film industry. Recent years have seen a significant growth spurt in the cultural and tourism sectors within northeastern China, allowing Jilin to capitalize on these developments.
Winter activities play a crucial role in attracting tourists, with the Changbai Mountains being renowned for their long winter seasons and excellent snow quality. They are frequently listed among the world’s top three skiing destinations, sharing this elite ranking with the Alps of Europe and the Rocky Mountains of North America, due to their prime location in the so-called golden snow belt.
A historical aspect enriches Jilin’s narrative; it was once part of the ancient kingdom of Goguryeo, serving as its capital for over six centuries. This rich heritage is now a focal point of the emerging G331 exhibition corridor, which aims at preserving and effectively utilizing cultural heritage.
In 2024, Jilin saw a remarkable increase in tourism, with visitor numbers up by 66% and total revenues increasing by 69%. The international tourism sector alone experienced an impressive growth of 161%. This influx of tourists has propelled the development of related industries, including gastronomy, accommodation, and entertainment services.
As Jilin continues to broaden its horizons and encourage cultural exchanges, there is no doubt that upcoming opportunities will further enhance its standing on the global stage. The hardworking individuals and sectors within the province remain optimistic about future collaborations that will promote shared prosperity and deepen cultural appreciation across borders.
