Franco and Pietro Gussalli Beretta Receive Prestigious Dr. Vito Genco Award from WFSA

Celebrating Excellence in Shooting: The Gussalli Brothers

Last week, the World Forum on Shooting Activities (WFSA) awarded brothers Franco and Pietro Gussalli Beretta with the esteemed Dr. Vito Genco Shooting Ambassador Award during the IWA OutdoorClassics trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany. This award, recognized as WFSA's highest honor, acknowledges individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the fields of hunting and sport shooting.

Franco Gussalli Beretta, proudly accepting the award on behalf of himself and his brother, articulated the profound honor it represents. "It is an immense honor to present our top award to leaders who embody the very essence of what our organisation promotes—excellence in hunting, sport shooting, and responsible civilian firearms ownership," stated Tony Bernardo, WFSA President, acknowledging the significance of the award coinciding with the 500th anniversary of the Beretta Company.

This prestigious award highlights the brothers' long-standing commitment to these fields, showcasing their influence and outstanding achievements in the shooting community. Notably, the Dr. Vito Genco Shooting Ambassador Award has previously been awarded to various distinguished figures, including Olympic athletes and notable public icons.

In his acceptance speech, Franco expressed gratitude towards WFSA, emphasizing its role in fostering values, tradition, and innovation within the broader shooting community.

In their respective roles within the Beretta organization, Franco serves as the president and CEO of Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta, and Pietro is the president and CEO of Beretta Holding. Together, they have diligently upheld the renowned legacy of their family business, which traces its roots back to 1526.

The event at the IWA not only marked a milestone for the Gussalli brothers but also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the WFSA. Past president Graham Downing presented noteworthy reflections on the organization's journey and accomplishments over the decades, highlighting its dedication to preserving shooting traditions through collaboration with governments and global institutions.

The plenary session also featured engaging panel discussions on various significant topics, including the introduction of shooting disciplines in the upcoming LA2028 Olympics, discussed by ISSF Secretary-General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo. Furthermore, the session addressed proposed EU restrictions on lead ammunition, presented by attorney Peter Sellar of Squire Patton Boggs, offering insights into legislative implications on the sport.

Additionally, Charles Fowler, Chair of the WFSA Image Committee, introduced a new international policy database tool, aimed at enhancing communication and collaboration within the international shooting community.

The WFSA, established in 1996, functions as an international non-governmental organization, currently holding consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The organization encompasses over 50 national and international bodies, tirelessly advocating for the preservation and promotion of hunting and sport shooting cultures.

In conclusion, the recognition of Franco and Pietro Gussalli Beretta with the Dr. Vito Genco Shooting Ambassador Award underscores their pivotal role in championing excellence and responsible practices in the shooting realm. As the Beretta company commemorates its 500-year legacy, its leaders continue to shape the landscape of shooting sports, representing a blend of historical respect and forward-thinking innovation.
