Slovakia Becomes First Country to Confirm Participation in Expo 2027

Slovakia has officially marked a significant milestone in its international relations by becoming the first country to confirm its participation in the upcoming Expo 2027, which will be held in Belgrade, Serbia. This announcement was made public in Belgrade on November 20, 2025, by Matej Fekete, the Director General of Slovakia Travel, along with Lukáš Parízek, the General Commissioner for Expo 2027.

During the event, the symbolic signing of the official contract took place, which commits Slovakia to participate in this global exhibition. This contract was signed alongside the Serbian Minister of Trade, Internal Affairs, and Tourism, Jagoda Lazarević, and Danilo Jerinić, the CEO of Expo 2027. The spectacle of this signing is a testament to the strong ties and collaboration that exist between Slovakia and Serbia.

Lukáš Parízek expressed pride in being the first nation to secure its participation in this major event, emphasizing the implications of hosting such a significant exhibition. He stated, "This is a significant achievement for us as it is one of the largest events a country can host. We have strong relations with Serbia, and we must seize this opportunity to strengthen our ties while showcasing Slovakia on a global scale, not just within the Balkans."

As part of the official program, the Slovak delegation also engaged in discussions with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the National Tourism Organization of Serbia, represented by its General Director, Marija Labović. These talks were centered on enhancing cooperation in tourism and promoting each country to the other's citizens.

Matej Fekete highlighted the importance of participation in Expo 2027, stating, "The Universal Exhibition in Belgrade represents a unique opportunity to demonstrate how we can connect nations, foster cultural diversity, and build sustainable tourism at an international level for the benefit of society as a whole. Our presence at this event underscores our commitment to enhancing Slovakia's international stature and contributing to sustainable solutions for future generations. This occasion will also solidify our cooperation with Serbia in the tourism sector."

The Expo 2027 is set to commence on May 15, 2027, and will run for three months. It is expected to feature participation from over 120 nations and attract more than four million visitors throughout its duration. This international exhibition serves as a platform for cultural exchange, innovation, and sustainable development across diverse sectors.

SLOVAKIA TRAVEL is the national organization responsible for promoting tourism within Slovakia. Their primary aim is to foster tourism growth in both national and international markets, making events like Expo 2027 invaluable for showcasing what Slovakia has to offer to the world.

With Slovakia’s early confirmation of its participation, expectations are high for a spectacular presence that not only highlights the nation’s unique offerings but also strengthens bilateral relations with Serbia and reinforces Slovakia's role on the global stage. As the countdown to Expo 2027 begins, the anticipation grows for what promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved, reflecting the spirit of cooperation and cultural sharing.
