The Dandelion Project: A Creative Art Installation for Peace in Kyoto
This summer, Kyoto will host an inspiring art event that marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. From July 19 to August 17, 2025, the
Dandelion Project, an interactive art initiative organized by NAKED, INC., will take place at two significant locations:
Fushimi Inari Taisha and
Yasaka Shrine. This project aims to symbolize global prayers for peace and engage the local community, especially the children of Kyoto.
A Symbol of Peace Through Art
As the world reflects on 80 years since the end of the Second World War, the Dandelion Project invites people to connect through shared hopes and prayers for peace. The sacred sites of Fushimi Inari Taisha and Yasaka Shrine, known for their history and spiritual significance, will become canvases for creativity. Thousands of visitors are expected to gather, providing an opportunity for personal reflections on peace within the tranquil environments of these revered locations.
Collaborating with Kyoto’s Youth
The project highlights the importance of youth participation. During the initial preparations in late June, a workshop at Inari Elementary School engaged children to create artwork embodying thoughts like, "May the world be peaceful" and "May everyone live kindly and joyfully." These heartfelt creations will form part of the art display within the shrine, allowing these young artists to contribute to a message of hope that transcends generations.
Additionally, on July 25, summer evening markets will crescendo with creative workshops led by the local branches of Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, inviting more families to join in expressing their wishes for peace.
Schedule for Art Exhibitions:
- - Inari Elementary School creations: July 19 - August 2
- - Otokusuzumachi Shopping Street creations: August 3 - August 17
At Yasaka Shrine, scouts from Kyoto will contribute by expressing peace wishes through the symbolism of the dandelion light, uniting their efforts with those of young artists from other schools, emphasizing community engagement.
