In a recent release by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), staggering statistics are unveiled regarding global aesthetic procedures conducted in 2025. This report details not only the number of surgeries performed but also the rising trends in non-surgical interventions.

Overview of Aesthetic Procedures

According to the report, around 17.9 million surgical aesthetic procedures were completed, alongside 17.3 million non-surgical procedures. Collectively, such interventions increased by 9.2% over the past four years, highlighting a significant interest in cosmetic enhancements across the globe.

Among surgical interventions, eyelid surgery remains the most sought-after procedure, followed closely by liposuction and breast augmentation. Non-surgical preferences skew toward botulinum toxin injections and hyaluronic acid fillers, offering less invasive options for those seeking aesthetic improvement.

Interestingly, facial procedures have seen a marked increase, reporting over 7.6 million interventions, with eyelid surgery emerging as the most common, recording over 2.4 million cases. Furthermore, rhinoplasty and facial fat grafting also made the list of top procedures, emphasizing a shift in preferences towards refining facial aesthetics.

Gender and Age Demographics

The report reveals intriguing insights into the demographics of patients. For the first time, eyelid surgery emerged as the most frequent procedure among both women and men. Women prominently favor breast augmentation and liposuction, whereas men tend to opt for gynecomastia procedures and rhinoplasties.

An overwhelming 85.6% of surgical and 84.8% of non-surgical procedures were performed on women, with men constituting 14.4% and 15.2%, respectively. Notably, women aged 18 to 34 are the largest demographic engaging in breast augmentation and genital interventions, while the 35 to 50 age group shows strong interest in botulinum toxin injections and liposuction.

Trends in Procedures and Safety Concerns

The report also indicates a contrast in the trends of various procedures. For instance, breast surgical interventions saw a robust increase of 5.7%, while body and limb surgeries experienced a decline of 8.9%. Surprisingly, non-surgical procedures have shown a decline, particularly a 25% drop in hyaluronic acid injection treatments across both genders.

Dr. Amin Kalaaji, chair of ISAPS’s global survey committee, highlighted that changes observed across 51 markets signify varying demands for aesthetic services. He mentioned mastopexy (breast lifting) with the highest percentage increase at 48%, while eyelid surgery recorded the most substantial numerical growth.

Amidst these growing statistics, patient safety remains a top priority. Dr. Naveen Cavale, chair of ISAPS's communications committee, cautioned that while aesthetic surgery is often elective, it carries inherent risks. He encouraged patients to carefully select certified and experienced plastic surgeons for their procedures to ensure safety and satisfactory results.

Global Landscape of Cosmetic Procedures

The U.S. continues to lead the world in surgical interventions, performing over 5.4 million procedures, with a significant portion accounting for non-surgical options. Brazil closely follows with 3.2 million procedures (2.3 million surgical), and China rounds out the top three with 2.8 million.

Interestingly, countries noted for hosting a high volume of international patients include the Dominican Republic, Tunisia, and Mexico, serving as key destinations for those seeking cosmetic procedures abroad.
