Encompass Health Expands Presence with New Rehabilitation Hospital in Bridgeport, WV

Encompass Health Expands in Bridgeport, West Virginia

Encompass Health Corp. is set to enhance healthcare access by establishing a new 36-bed rehabilitation hospital in Bridgeport, West Virginia. This ambitious project aims to cater to the growing needs of the community by providing much-needed inpatient rehabilitation services.

The new facility will be a significant upgrade from Encompass Health's previous 19-bed unit within the WVU Medicine United Hospital Center, which has now ceased operations. As announced by Abe Sims, President of Encompass Health's MidAtlantic region, the expansion comes as a direct response to the increasing demand for rehabilitation services in the area. "We're thrilled to expand access to inpatient rehabilitation care for patients in Bridgeport and surrounding communities," Sims stated.

The Bridgeport hospital is designed to deliver state-of-the-art rehabilitation care. Inside, patients will find all private patient rooms, a fully-equipped therapy gym featuring advanced rehabilitation technologies, an activities of daily living suite, and even an in-house dialysis suite. Additionally, the facility will include a dining area, pharmacy, and an outdoor therapy courtyard to enhance the recovery experience for patients.

The hospital will specifically assist individuals recovering from serious illnesses and injuries, such as strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic conditions. With a dedicated 24-hour nursing staff, the hospital will offer a comprehensive range of therapies—including physical, occupational, and speech therapy—to help patients regain their independence and improve their overall quality of life. Care will be provided by an interdisciplinary team of skilled nurses, therapists, and physicians, ensuring that each patient's needs are met comprehensively.

In response to the closure of the 19-bed unit, Encompass Health’s Rehabilitation Hospital of Morgantown has temporarily expanded its capacity to ensure a seamless transition and continuity of care for existing patients until the new Bridgeport facility is operational.

Encompass Health is recognized as the leading owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals across the United States, boasting a network of 175 hospitals situated in 39 states and Puerto Rico. The company's reputation for high-quality, compassionate rehabilitative care is well established, leveraging advanced technology and innovative treatment options to maximize recovery outcomes. Over the years, Encompass Health's commitment to excellence has earned it numerous accolades, including the title of America’s Most Awarded Leader in Inpatient Rehabilitation by Newsweek.

The new rehabilitation hospital in Bridgeport represents a significant investment in community health and wellness, responding to the evolving healthcare requirements of West Virginia residents. As the construction progresses, stakeholders remain optimistic about the positive impact this hospital will have on patient outcomes and the local economy.
