PowerHouse Data Centers Innovates in Charlotte, NC
PowerHouse Data Centers, a prominent name in the real estate sector specializing in next-generation hyperscale data centers, is making significant strides in the construction of its state-of-the-art data center campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. Spanning an expansive 122 acres on University City Boulevard, this project is positioned to lead the way in the development of modern data infrastructures. With work currently underway in the permitting phase, the facility aims to set new benchmarks in the industry, integrating advanced cooling mechanisms, adaptable powered shell designs, and dedicated support for AI-centric workloads.
Doug Fleit, the Co-founder and CEO of PowerHouse, emphasizes the importance of this project: "The PowerHouse Charlotte campus is a game-changer. We are redefining the data center landscape with a flexible design that meets the evolving demands of hyperscale tenants. This campus reflects our commitment to innovation and forward-thinking design."
One of the standout features of the Charlotte campus is its modular powered shell design. This unique approach allows hyperscale tenants to customize their spaces, which is crucial for responding to the versatile and rapidly changing requirements of data processing and storage. The construction philosophy at PowerHouse is focused on giving occupants the freedom to tailor their environments, ensuring that they can keep pace with technological advancements.
Karen Petersburg, PowerHouse's VP of Development and Construction, elaborates on the project's vision: "Our campus is uniquely designed to set a new standard for next-generation deployments and hyperscale tenants. Unlike conventional setups, our adaptable powered shells cater to a wide array of needs, including specific configurations for AI technologies. We've integrated advanced cooling solutions, reinforced structures that are capable of supporting heavy equipment, and prepared our infrastructure to handle the latest AI-driven rack systems. This will make our facilities truly future-ready."
The construction of this groundbreaking facility will unfold in two phases, with the first phase kicking off in early 2025 focused on site preparation procedures such as road construction and substation development. Progress is well underway, with substation equipment already ordered to align with the energy needs as mandated by Duke Energy. The actual construction of the substation is set to begin in October 2025, with a target energization date set for April 2027.
This transformative campus will be comprised of four distinct buildings, with construction slated to commence in March 2026 and all phases expected to be completed by 2027. The design not only prioritizes the efficiency and effectiveness of data operations but also addresses the necessity for a robust infrastructure that supports future technological demands.
