Unveiling Surprising Holiday Skincare Habits Among Women in America

Surprising Skincare Practices Revealed for the Holiday Season

As the festive season approaches, preparations for parties, shopping marathons, and colder weather are in full swing across America. However, while many women experience the hustle and bustle of this joyous time, a recent study conducted by TENA sheds light on some startling findings regarding skincare practices. Despite the chill and environmental challenges, significant portions of women's skincare routines seem to overlook certain body areas that are just as deserving of care during the holidays.

Key Findings from the Research

The research, which surveyed around 1,000 women in the United States, highlights a mix of dedicated skincare practices and surprising neglect. According to the study:
  • - Popularly Treated Areas: When it comes to skincare during the winter holidays, women heeded their beauty regimes for hands (68%), legs (67%), arms (62%), neck (60%), and feet (58%).
  • - Neglected Regions: Alarmingly, several body areas received scant attention. Only 27% reported caring for their backs, 33% for their ears, and just 36% for their scalps. The buttocks (38%) also fall into this oversight.
  • - Intimate and Under-the-Radar Care: Furthermore, the study revealed gaps in intimate skincare, as only 38% of women accounted for those areas. More than one in five admitted to never performing intimate skincare routines. Underarm care at 45% was notably lower than foot care, despite the trend of prioritizing all body parts on social media.
  • - Breast Care: Interestingly, only 44% of respondents practiced any form of skincare for their breasts, juxtaposed with 50% who cared for their knees. This indicates that many women might shift their focus to areas related to mobility and comfort during the winter months.
  • - Comprehensive Routines: A mere 39% of the women indicated that they apply skincare products to their entire body, and almost 10% reported avoiding skincare entirely during the holiday season.

Generational Insights

The study also identified some generational differences in skincare habits:
  • - Gen Z Women: They led in more focused care, particularly for intimate areas (50%) and scalps (52%).
  • - Millennials: Prioritized skincare for legs (70%) and underarms (58%).
  • - Midlife Women: Emphasized care for arms, elbows, and feet.
  • - Women Aged 55+: Focused primarily on hands (73%) and legs (72%).

Regional Variations

Additionally, regional habits played a role in how different areas were treated:
  • - Northeast: This region led in leg care (70%) and intimate routines (45%).
  • - Southern States: Emphasized hand care (69%) and exhibited heightened concern for breast care (24%).
  • - Midwest: Reported the highest percentage of women caring for their entire bodies (41%).
  • - Western States: Saw a greater neglect of intimate-area care (23%).

A Call for Comprehensive Skincare

Hazel Villarreal, Marketing Director for TENA North America, remarked, “Despite evolving holiday skincare routines, certain crucial areas remain overlooked. This reveals a pressing need for better skincare guidance tailored for the challenges of winter.” As the festive season continues, this evidence underscores the importance of recognizing and addressing neglected areas for a well-rounded skincare approach.

Final Thoughts

Overall, while many women remain vigilant about their skincare practices during the holidays, the research suggests that attention to often-forgotten areas is critical. With winter's inherent dryness and cold, a comprehensive skincare routine can serve to enhance both appearance and overall skin health, ensuring that all body areas receive the care they deserve during this festive time.
