Japan Kodo is excited to announce the "Bon Photo Contest 2025" aimed at capturing and celebrating the beauty of Obon traditions through photography. From July 1 to August 24, 2025, individuals can submit their best Obon moments on X and Instagram, showcasing what makes this time of year special for families across Japan.

Contest Background

Obon is a cherished cultural tradition in Japan, marking the time when people return to their hometowns to honor their ancestors and spend quality time with family. The Bon Photo Contest celebrates this heartwarming custom, fostering a connection with the heritage and collective memories that define it. Following the success of last year's contest, Japan Kodo aims to keep these beautiful moments alive and to share them with future generations. The contest invites everyone to reflect on the joy of Obon and encourages participants to express their fond sentiments through the lens of their cameras.

Contest Overview

• - Title: Bon Photo Contest 2025
• - Eligibility: Open to anyone with a public X or Instagram account.
• - Submission Period: From July 1, 2025, to August 24, 2025.
• - How to Enter:

1. Follow the official Japan Kodo account on X (@nipponkodo_jp).
2. Post a memorable photo that captures an essence of Obon along with a title and a short story about the moment, using the hashtag #盆フォト2025.
3. For Instagram, also tag Japan Kodo's account (@nipponkodo_japan).

Participants can submit multiple entries throughout the contest period as long as the content of the photo differs each time.

- 50,000 JPY Original Q-PON Card
- Sukiyaki set (20,000 JPY worth) from Ginza Rangetsu

• - Excellence Award (3 winners):

- 20,000 JPY Original Q-PON Card
- Sukiyaki bento (10,000 JPY worth) from Ginza Rangetsu

• - Japan Kodo President’s Award (1 winner):

- 5,000 JPY Original Q-PON Card
- An incense and fragrance set (5,000 JPY worth)

- 1,000 JPY Original Q-PON Card
- An incense set (2,000 JPY worth)

Selection and Announcement of Winners
