Celebrating a Decade of Asunoba
Asunoba, a public interest incorporated foundation based in Tokyo, will reach a significant milestone in its mission to combat child poverty. On June 14, 2025, the organization will host the
2nd Stage Opening Ceremony at the Shufu Kaikan Plaza F in Chiyoda, Tokyo, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. This event marks not only a decade of achievements but also a renewed commitment to tackling child poverty in Japan.
The Background of the Event
Founded on June 19, 2015, Asunoba emerged in response to the enactment of Japan's Child Poverty Measures Promotion Act. Over the last decade, the organization has made strides in supporting children and young people affected by poverty, providing initiatives and resources to bridge the gap in their opportunities.
The event scheduled for June 14 is an opportunity to reflect on the past 10 years while expressing gratitude to all supporters. It comes on the heels of a significant legislative change that occurred on June 19 of the previous year—the transformation of the Child Poverty Measures Promotion Act into the Child Poverty Elimination Act. This evolution emphasizes the urgent need to address the conditions of child poverty as a fundamental right.
What to Expect at the Ceremony
At the event, Asunoba will present its
Medium-term Plan, shedding light on the current status and issues concerning child poverty in Japan. Attendees will engage in rich discussions about necessary future initiatives. There will be a panel discussion titled
"What Is Necessary to Eliminate Child Poverty", featuring esteemed speakers such as:
- - Hiromi Kondo, Representative Director at Tomoshibi At Dandan
- - Katsuki Naoshima, Lecturer at Kawasaki University of Medical Welfare
- - Mana Kashiwagi, Former Asunoba Child and Youth Committee Member, Staff at Otera Oyakutokubun
