On January 21, 2026, the Japan Food Products Overseas Promotion Center (JFOODO) hosted an extraordinary event, Japan Night 2026, during the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos. This exclusive gathering took place at the Central Sport Hotel Davos, attracting approximately 440 guests eager to experience the excellence of Japanese cuisine.

The event was not just a meal; it was a celebration of Japan's diverse food culture, showcasing a variety of premium ingredients such as Wagyu beef, buri (yellowtail), hotate (scallops), rice, Japanese tea, and fruit juices. The menu featured a selection of warm dishes like roasted Wagyu beef and sukiyaki, alongside seafood delicacies that highlighted the fresh flavors of buri and hotate. Guests also enjoyed onigiri (rice balls) made from high-quality Japanese rice renowned for their unique texture and taste, even when cooled.

One of the highlights of the evening was a sushi-making demonstration by skilled sushi chefs, which provided an interactive experience for attendees. Collaborating with the Tokyo-based Japanese restaurant, BIMI, local chefs expertly crafted dishes that utilized ingredients from Japan, immersing guests in authentic flavors. The evening was enhanced by a special presentation by the head chef of Mizunoe, a renowned kaiseki restaurant in Kyoto, who introduced the art of Japanese cuisine and demonstrated the traditional knife technique known as katsuramuki. Audience members were captivated by the elegant decoration of finely cut produce, sending waves of applause throughout the venue.

2026 marks the 15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, reminding participants of the importance of resilience and cultural heritage. To commemorate this significant milestone, guests were treated to peach juice and sake from Fukushima Prefecture, providing a taste of Japan's regional specialties and culinary diversity.

Among the attendees was André Hoffmann, co-chairman of the World Economic Forum, who expressed his hopes for Japan's continued advancement. He remarked on Japan Night as a highly anticipated event, emphasizing the opportunity it offers to engage with various aspects of Japanese culture. Hoffmann mingled with guests, enjoying sushi and beverages while sparking conversations about the meal's origin and preparation.
