Tech Doctor Launches Innovative AI-Healthcare Research Project

Tech Doctor, based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, is excited to announce the commencement of its first initiative under the "AI and Healthcare Research Institute." This project features Uichiro Yano, a professor from Juntendo University's Department of General Medicine and director of the AI Incubation Farm, as an advisor. The initiative aims to develop and validate a medical support system that leverages biometric data obtained from wearable devices in conjunction with large language models (LLM).

Background and Purpose

In recent years, the use of wearable devices to gather daily health metrics such as heart rate, step count, and sleep patterns has become increasingly common. These efforts enable monitoring of health conditions and early detection of disease risks. However, to make this data meaningful for both doctors and patients, it is essential to transform raw data into actionable information.

The conversion of data into usable information can be significantly enhanced by the memory functionality of LLMs. These models possess the capability to retain both long-term medical knowledge and general health information gained from training, alongside individual dialogue history and past data with users (both medical professionals and patients). This not only allows for the presentation of data but also offers personalized explanations and suggestions in natural language, tailored to each individual's context and history, fostering effective data utilization.

In this initiative, Tech Doctor will analyze data collected from wearable devices using statistical methods, machine learning, and deep learning technologies. By integrating these analyses with LLMs, the project aims to provide easily understandable and beneficial insights for healthcare providers and patients, focusing on personalized feedback, anomaly detection, and health management support.

Overview of the Demonstration Project

The demonstration will use approximately two years' worth of wearable device data from around 10 participants, following these development and validation processes:

1. Data Analysis
- Extract long-term trends and seasonal variations using time series analysis
- Detect acute physiological changes due to factors like infectious diseases
- Conduct integrated analysis with survey and self-reported information (e.g., fatigue levels, menstrual cycle)

2. Natural Language Generation with LLM
- Generate meaningful feedback for healthcare professionals and patients based on analysis results
- Design prompts to automate trend analysis and explanation of abnormal events

3. Evaluation and Improvement
- Conduct quantitative evaluation based on the consistency with Tech Doctor's analytical platform, SelfBase
- Validate clarity and practicality through qualitative reviews by internal evaluators
