On June 5, 2025, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a seminar featuring prominent attorneys from Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu Law Office, including Mr. Hirohisa Watanabe and Mr. Eiji Miyagi. This seminar will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest legal frameworks surrounding Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Private Finance Initiative (PFI) schemes, specifically in the context of private investments in urban green spaces. As we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the revised PPP/PFI Promotion Action Plan, it is imperative to understand the evolving landscape of PPP/PFI projects in Japan. The seminar will address the ongoing integration of innovative structures in these initiatives, aiming to tackle social issues while fostering a growth-oriented economy.
Urban green spaces, however, are diminishing, highlighting the urgent need for maintaining such areas within cities. With the rise of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) investments, attracting private funding to urban greenery has emerged as a critical challenge. This seminar will lay out foundational knowledge of PPP/PFI projects, explained through the lens of legal considerations crucial for securing urban green spaces.
