Huawei and Morocco's Government: Accelerating Education Transformation with DigiSchool Project

Huawei and Morocco's DigiSchool Project

Huawei and the Moroccan government have marked a significant milestone in educational transformation with the completion of the DigiSchool 2024 project. Announced on December 31, 2024, this initiative aims at ensuring equitable access to digital technologies for students across Morocco. The project is a testament to the partnership between public and private sectors to enhance the resilience of the country's digital ecosystem.

David Li, Managing Director of Huawei Morocco, emphasized the importance of developing digital skills and consolidating partnerships. He stated, "This strategic partnership demonstrates Huawei's commitment to investing in education and innovation, supporting Morocco's pursuit of quality and inclusive digital education."

Project Phases

The DigiSchool initiative focused on developing essential digital skills among teachers and students, specifically training in technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and web resource development. Throughout the project year, participants engaged in practical experiences related to robotics and programming. They solved technical puzzles and enhanced their digital literacy through interactive games designed to foster creativity.

The structure of the DigiSchool 2024 project was divided into four distinct phases:
1. Teacher Training: The first phase trained 265 high school teachers in ICT skills across 12 regions in Morocco.
2. Ongoing Support: The second phase provided continuous support to the trained teachers, assisting them in applying their newly acquired skills in classrooms for about 2,650 students.
3. Regional Hackathons: From May to November, 12 regional hackathons were organized, involving 714 students tasked with developing ICT solutions to designated challenges.
4. Technology Training Centers: The final phase in December consisted of tech training centers in Fes, Marrakech, and Agadir, bringing together 180 students and 60 teachers from different regions for practical skill refinement.

These centers were designed to refine the ICT skills students had developed earlier in their training and hackathons. Teams received personalized support to enhance their projects and present solutions to a judging panel, with outstanding proposals being awarded prizes.

The project concluded with an insightful visit to the Agadir training center from December 17-19, where a high-level delegation, including Morocco's Minister of National Education Mohamed Saad Berrada, was present. During the tour, students showcased the new skills they had developed by presenting their solutions to the delegation.

A Broader Commitment

The success of the DigiSchool 2024 project highlights the Moroccan government's dedication to digitization, inclusivity, and fairness within the national education system. It serves as a regional example of leveraging technology as a vector for achieving equal opportunities and progress—an outcome that Huawei is also committed to.

In parallel with these educational initiatives, Huawei runs the TECH4ALL program globally, collaborating with partners like UNESCO and regional governments. This includes the DigiSchool projects in Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile, and China, aimed at connecting remote schools to the internet and enhancing digital skills for students and teachers alike.
