Discover Peace: A Free Event in Musashino City

On May 5, 2026, Musashino City will host a significant event titled 'Discover Peace' from 1 PM to 4 PM at Musashino Place. This initiative, organized by the Japan Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons and the Pal System Cooperative, aims to emphasize the importance of peace while spotlighting the devastating repercussions of war and nuclear weapons. Attendees can look forward to a variety of engaging booths, including a VR experience illustrating the horrors of atomic bombings and the opportunity to sample fair trade bananas.

The event's highlight will be a series of presentations and discussions where firsthand accounts from atomic bomb survivors will be shared, fostering valuable conversations between generations. With nine distinct booths, participants will encounter interactive experiences that promote understanding of peace.

Activities and Exhibits

Inside Musashino Place, the first-floor gallery and fourth-floor forum will be abuzz with activities. An impressive replica of the Nobel Peace Prize medal awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) will be on display. Alongside this, a collection of illustrated books will depict the grave humanitarian crises faced by children in Palestine. Moreover, artwork and informational panels created by atomic bomb survivors will provide poignant insights into the realities of living with such histories.

One notable installation is the 'Message Tree,' where visitors can write and post their hopes for a conflict-free world, fostering a communal spirit of peace and cooperation.

The workshop booths will offer various hands-on activities. Attendees can participate in crafting projects such as creating mascots known as 'Sensou Houki' (war broom) and colorful bracelets (misanga), as well as experiencing VR simulations to understand atomic bomb impacts. The fair trade banana tasting aims to educate about the significance of ethical trading practices, demonstrating how fair deals enhance livelihoods and contribute to societal stability and respect for human rights.

Engagement and Rewards

To enrich the visitor experience, a stamp rally will be conducted, where participants can collect stamps throughout the venue. Every attendee will receive a refreshing 'Carrot-san Mini' carrot fruit juice (100ml) as a gift. Moreover, the first 200 individuals who complete the rally will be awarded a sample of Marseille olive oil soap, promoting local artisans and products.
