Verde Resources Launches Eco-Friendly Initiative with EPD for Engineered Biochar Road Materials

Verde Resources Inc., a rising figure in sustainable infrastructure products, has embarked on an ambitious initiative to develop an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its Engineered Biochar used in road materials. This crucial step was launched in collaboration with WAP Sustainability, a renown global consulting firm specializing in sustainability assessments. The EPD aims to provide comprehensive and verified data on the environmental impacts associated with Verde's innovative BioAsphalt™.

At the core of this initiative is a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which is being performed to quantify the ecological footprint of Verde’s engineered biochar, a material designed for carbon sequestering purposes. The results are expected to present potential customers with science-based, transparent information on the environmental benefits of utilizing BioAsphalt™ in road construction. This serves not only to enhance buyer confidence but also to underscore Verde’s commitment to sustainable practices in infrastructure development.

This strategic endeavor is a continuation of Verde's milestones, which began with a successful proof of concept project for BioAsphalt™ in December 2024. This project, executed in partnership with Oregon Biochar Solutions and the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT), conclusively demonstrated the feasibility of integrating BioAsphalt™ into live roadway applications. Impressively, this initiative resulted in the generation of eight tons of verified Carbon Removal Credits, which were later acquired by a leading global financial institution focused on carbon mitigation.

The successful completion of the LCA would lead to the publication of the EPD, one of the first globally to incorporate engineered biochar into asphalt while detailing long-term carbon storage benefits. Currently, there are no recognized EPDs in the market that fully adhere to these standards, marking a significant innovation from Verde Resources. Furthermore, this initiative supports Verde’s collaboration with Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions, Inc., North America’s largest liquid asphalt producer with an extensive global reach. By creating a validated LCA and EPD framework, Verde is poised to facilitate the wide deployment of BioAsphalt™ through Ergon's expansive distribution network.

Karl Strahl, a leading figure in Verde and its Board of Directors member, explained: “Biochar represents a class of carbon materials derived from biomass. This project aims to blend engineered biochar with asphalt, effectively positioning it as a viable solution for transforming everyday highways into verifiable carbon sinks.” Verde’s vision not only emphasizes high-performance infrastructure but also promotes credible carbon accounting practices, aligning with industry goals to decarbonize the built environment across North America and potentially worldwide.

The asphalt industry typically employs the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s EPD program, which ensures a standardized approach to evaluate a product’s environmental impact. ضمن هذا السياق, WAP Sustainability, known for its accurate and detailed LCA expertise, is enhancing Verde's sustainability profile through this initiative. Their participation ensures that the EPD process is credible, transparent, and scalable across the North American market.

William Paddock, Co-Founder and CEO of WAP Sustainability, expressed enthusiasm for the venture, noting, “We are excited to contribute to Verde's pioneering path towards establishing a biochar-carbon EPD for sustainable road infrastructure.” As the ongoing LCA moves forward, the EPD will also require third-party validation, setting the stage for its anticipated publication this summer.

Since its inception in 2009, Verde Resources has been at the forefront of creating innovative solutions aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Their array of sustainable technologies not only sequesters carbon but optimizes the utilization of local soils and recycled materials, streamlining installation processes while reducing costs. With its dedication to sustainable practices, Verde is leading the charge toward a greener future in infrastructure development.
