Holyoke Community College and eCampus.com Collaborate on Equitable Access Program

Holyoke Community College (HCC), based in the heart of Holyoke, Massachusetts, is taking a significant step towards enhancing educational accessibility by expanding its partnership with eCampus.com. This collaboration is set to launch the Cougar Access program by Fall 2026, aiming to provide students with affordable educational resources.

The Cougar Access program is designed to streamline the acquisition of course materials, ensuring that students have access to both physical and digital textbooks from the very first day of class. This initiative addresses the pressing issue of high prices associated with educational resources, which can often reach between $800 and $1,000 annually for students. With the Cougar Access program, the majority of students are expected to pay less than half of that typical expenditure.

This improved approach follows an initial partnership formed in 2024, in which eCampus.com helped HCC enhance its online course material operations through the establishment of a customized online storefront. The new program is built on this foundation, focusing on creating an inclusive and cost-effective resource experience, tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.

Under the Cougar Access program, materials will be automatically provided to students based on their course registrations. Physical textbooks will be available for pickup at the campus store, while digital resources will be accessible through the institution’s learning management system, Canvas, or through eCampus.com's digital platform. This integration aims to eliminate barriers faced by students in accessing their required materials.

Narayan Sampath, HCC's Vice President of Administration and Finance, expressed optimism about the program's implementation. He stated, "Since our partnership with eCampus started in 2024, we have been able to offer students a more affordable and convenient way to obtain their course materials. The launch of the Cougar Access program marks a vital milestone toward lowering costs and improving accessibility for our students."

The program particularly stresses the importance of textbook affordability and the reduction of stress linked to sourcing correct course materials. Faculty members are encouraged to select well-priced, high-quality content that supports student learning, backed by advanced software ensuring transparent pricing and integration of Open Educational Resources (OER).

Matt Montgomery, President and CEO of eCampus.com, highlighted the collaboration's significance, stating that access to affordable materials is crucial for student success. “By partnering with Holyoke Community College, we're setting out to provide a streamlined solution that will allow students to be prepared from day one,” he noted. "Our aim is to dismantle obstacles to access while simultaneously lowering costs, thus fostering a conducive environment for student achievement."
