HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2024: A Celebration of Photography

On November 27, 2024, the prestigious annual HUAWEI XMAGE Awards ceremony was held at the Shenzhen Sea World Culture and Art Center. This year’s theme, "A Heartwarming World," emphasized the warmth and positivity captured through the lens of photographers. The event gathered a vibrant community of photographers, media representatives, winners, and fans, all celebrating the magic of mobile photography.

A Community of Creativity

The HUAWEI XMAGE Awards have been a hallmark of mobile photography for eight consecutive years, drawing submissions from more than 170 countries and territories. Since its inception, nearly 5 million photographs have been entered into this influential competition. The 2024 awards featured over 650,000 entries from participants across 86 nations, with notable contributions from countries such as China, Malaysia, Turkey, the Philippines, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

Among the widely utilized smartphone models in the contest were the HUAWEI Pura 70 series, P60, P40, and Mate 60 series. The spotlight shone on 66 winning photographs, honoring three grand prize winners and numerous other category-specific accolades.

Winners Who Inspire

The grand prize winners, Chen Yong from China, Justin Mendoza from the Philippines, and Kinga Choińska from Poland, each received a reward of $10,000 from the Huawei Creation Fund. Their remarkable photographs showcase significant moments that resonate deeply with the human experience. As expressed by Chen Xiaobo, the Deputy President of the Chinese Photographers Association, their works reflect “strength, movement, beauty, and the unique stories of our shared world.”

The jury remarked on the thoughtful imagery presented:

• - Chen Xiaobo noted the power embodied in an image of a girl climbing a ladder, symbolizing hope and potential.
• - Keith Ladzinski, an acclaimed National Geographic photographer, praised a humorous image that challenged perceptions of scale, emphasizing the importance of composition and perspective.
• - James Perolls, a fashion photographer, highlighted the serene atmosphere of a captured moment between two sisters, reinforcing the connection and warmth conveyed through colors and light.

The exhibition held alongside the awards presented over 300 striking works, categorized into seven sections, enticing visitors to explore the endless charm of photography. Open from November 27 to 30, the exhibition aimed to provide art lovers with an intimate experience of the emotions and stories that reside in each photograph.
