Vantage Foundation Collaborates with KDM Foundation to Support Street Children in Jakarta
Partnership for Change: Vantage Foundation and KDM Foundation
In a remarkable development aimed at creating a positive impact in communities, Vantage Foundation has announced its collaboration with KDM Foundation, a nonprofit based in Jakarta dedicated to nurturing homeless children. This partnership aligns with both organizations' commitment to transform lives through education, creativity, and sustainable practices.
During a recent visit to the KDM campus, members of the Vantage Foundation were greeted warmly by Sotar Sinaga, the Director of KDM Foundation. Sinaga shared insights into their comprehensive approach to youth development. KDM is not just a shelter; it creates a stimulating environment where children can explore their potential through activities like painting, crafts, and sports. Furthermore, the organization integrates environmental education into its curriculum, promoting both creativity and responsibility among the children.
One of the highlights of the KDM's initiative is its self-sustaining ecosystem. This includes a small farm that cultivates chickens and catfish, accompanied by an organic waste management system. These projects help cater to the practical needs of the children while simultaneously imparting valuable lessons about sustainability and self-reliance. The children learn the importance of taking care of the environment and how they can contribute positively to their community.
In addition to these hands-on learning experiences, KDM Foundation has launched a unique art project known as the 'Pepe Doll.' Created in collaboration with the local brand Tulisan, this initiative aims to generate funds to support the foundation's mission. Named after a young girl searching for food on the streets, each doll sold will help provide education and shelter to children in need.
A particularly touching moment during the Vantage team's visit was their observation of the powerful role football plays within the community. KDM uses football not merely as a sport but as a platform for teaching values such as discipline, teamwork, and cooperation. Through organizing matches in the local area, they engage the youth, creating an avenue for vulnerable children to find safety and guidance.
"We don’t refer to it as fundraising; for us, it’s friend-raising," stated Sotar Sinaga. He emphasized the importance of community support, stating that without friends, KDM's life-changing projects would not be sustainable. This sentiment underscores KDM’s commitment to building relationships and creating a support network around the children.
The Vantage Foundation team left the KDM campus inspired, witnessing firsthand the joy, resilience, and creativity of the children. Steven Xie, Executive Director of Vantage Foundation, remarked, "The atmosphere at KDM is infused with hope and opportunities. Each child we encountered had a spark of potential, and it’s through partnerships like ours that we can help them realize it. We are honored to support KDM's incredible work and amplify their impact."
Collectively, Vantage Foundation and KDM Foundation aim not just to provide shelter but to pave the way for brighter futures filled with confidence and connection. This collaboration signifies another meaningful stride for Vantage Foundation as it continues its mission to uplift communities and foster lasting change.
Ultimately, the partnership demonstrates the collective power of organizations working together to address pressing societal issues and create viable pathways for the development of underserved children in Indonesia.
