Newly Renovated Territorial and Sovereignty Exhibition Hall Opens in Tokyo
On April 18, 2025, the Territorial and Sovereignty Exhibition Hall, managed by the Cabinet Secretariat's Territorial and Sovereignty Measures Planning and Coordination Office, celebrated its grand reopening at 1:30 PM. Dignitaries in attendance included Minister of Territorial Issues, Masanori Sakai, and Yoshitaka Shindo, the chairman of the Parliamentary Alliance for Action to Protect Japan's Territory, along with other esteemed members of parliament and officials from various ministries.
The exhibition hall aims to deepen understanding of Japan's territorial and sovereignty issues among a wider audience, especially the youth. To achieve this, the exhibition has transformed from the traditional "read-only" format to a dynamic "experiential exhibition" that leverages cutting-edge immersive technology. This modernization allows visitors to engage with the content in a more interactive and captivating manner.
On the very first day of reopening, the exhibition hall buzzed with visitors, who expressed their excitement about the new features. For a closer look, you can visit the official website

Opening Day Highlights
Even though the doors opened in the afternoon, the hall witnessed a remarkable turnout. The incorporation of audiovisual elements throughout the exhibition creates an engaging environment, drawing visitors into the experience. Observing the attendees as they intently explored the revamped displays was a highlight of the day.
Immersive Theater Experience
The star attraction, the "Immersive Theater," gives visitors a breathtaking view of the natural surroundings of the Northern Territories, Takeshima, and the Senkaku Islands, creating an almost lifelike experience. Children were particularly captivated, returning multiple times to enjoy the stunning visuals.
Although some may think that the theme of territorial sovereignty might be complicated or serious, the exhibition seeks to make these subjects accessible and relatable. By inviting more people to explore the exhibition, we hope they can come to appreciate the significance of the Northern Territories, Takeshima, and the Senkaku Islands.
