AutoFlight Successfully Demonstrates First eVTOL Flight in Central Asia, Paving the Way for Urban Air Mobility

Historic First: AutoFlight's eVTOL Flight in Central Asia

In a groundbreaking achievement for the aviation industry, AutoFlight has successfully completed the first demonstration flight of an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Alatau City, Kazakhstan. This milestone marks a significant leap forward for urban air mobility, particularly in Central Asia, where advancements in aviation technology are rapidly gaining momentum.

The flight took place on May 20, 2026, representing the first instance of a one-ton class eVTOL being operated in the region. This demonstration was carried out in partnership with Alatau Advance Air Group Ltd. (AAAG), which has already committed to purchasing the eVTOL aircraft from AutoFlight. During the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed to secure an additional 50 units of the V2000/V5000 eVTOL series, thereby enhancing low-altitude transport capabilities throughout Kazakhstan and beyond.

A Step Towards the Future

The significance of this event extends beyond mere technological demonstration. It symbolizes a progressive shift toward a new urban development model where innovation converges with advanced mobility solutions to create new economic sectors. Alisher Abdykadyrov, the head of the municipal authority of Alatau, emphasized this point, stating, "This is not just about showcasing new technology; it represents a transition towards a new model of urban development that integrates innovation and digital transformation."

As part of the initiative, the construction of the first vertiport in Alatau City is already underway at the demonstration site. This vertiport is expected to become the UAM Center Eurasia, the first center dedicated to urban air mobility in Kazakhstan. Such infrastructure is crucial to facilitating the growth of air travel options within urban areas, particularly for transport applications that can relieve road congestion.

Support from Government Initiatives

The efforts of AAAG and Alatau City Bank to attract foreign investment are instrumental in realizing this ambitious vision. With the recent signing of constitutional law by the state head on May 8, 2026, which establishes a special legal regime for Alatau City, the groundwork has been laid for high-tech sector development, including low-altitude economy initiatives. Vyacheslav Kim, a shareholder in Alatau City Bank, remarked, "The government’s support has allowed us to create the UAM Center Eurasia and attract some of the world's leading technological partners to Kazakhstan."

Future Collaborations

AutoFlight is eager to collaborate with AAAG and Kazakh authorities to advance airworthiness certification, establish operational standards, and develop training frameworks for pilots across the region. By working closely with local stakeholders, AutoFlight aims to ensure compliance and promote safety as eVTOL aircraft become part of the routine transportation landscape.
