LOQUAT Nishizu Selected for Michelin Guide: A Harmony of Nature, Culture, and Gastronomy in Izu

LOQUAT Nishizu: A Jewel in Izu's Crown

LOQUAT Nishizu, managed by Toi Tourism Revitalization Co., Ltd., and a subsidiary of ARTH Co., Ltd., has earned the prestigious 'Selected' designation from the Michelin Guide Hotel Selection (Japan edition). This accolade highlights the hotel’s commitment to embodying the rich natural and cultural heritage of Nishizu and Toi, offering guests an experience infused with local charm through architecture, cuisine, and hospitality.

The Essence and Features of LOQUAT Nishizu

Housed in a renovated ancient estate of the Suzuki family, a lineage dating back to the Edo period, LOQUAT Nishizu preserves the historical essence of the region while merging it with modern comfort. This unique hospitality provider offers just three exclusive spaces for guests to unwind, comprised of two historic kura (storehouses) known as 'Ni No Kura' and 'San No Kura', along with the distinct 'Villa SUGURO.' The entire accommodation is available for private rental, ensuring an intimate getaway.

Guests can savor a full-course dinner that celebrates the local bounty, while enjoying freshly baked bread and gelato at the on-site Gelato & Bake SANTi. Moreover, the facility features a dedicated spa treatment area called 'MIMOSA,' which utilizes natural ingredients from the region, specifically the 'white loquat.'

Nestled in a stunning location surrounded by mountains and the sea, LOQUAT Nishizu allows guests to immerse themselves in the breathtaking scenery of Izu. Outdoor activities such as biking and serene nature walks are offered as part of the experience, enabling visitors to fully appreciate the tranquil landscapes.

LOQUAT Nishizu is also dedicated to sustainability and the integration of local agriculture into its offerings. Plans are in place to provide guests with freshly harvested strawberries from their own strawberry farm, along with strawberry-picking packages that can be enjoyed as part of their stay. This initiative is in line with the hotel's goal to promote the region's primary industries through a sixth industrialization approach.

Recognition from the Michelin Guide

The Michelin Guide's official site describes LOQUAT Nishizu as an 'auberge like no other in Japan, transformed from a traditional family residence.' The rooms include private, natural hot spring baths, providing each guest room with an exclusive oasis. Additionally, the complementary amenities such as the bakery and homemade gelato contribute to the hotel’s esteemed reputation.

The boutique 'Villa SUGURO,' boasting over 180 square meters of space, further enhances the luxurious offerings by featuring its own source of natural spring baths—a detail that highlights the hotel's commitment to providing unique and upscale accommodations.

Understanding the Selected Designation

The 'Selected' category in the Michelin Guide sets apart accommodations that showcase exceptional facilities, comfort, originality, and hospitality, distinguishing them from Michelin-starred establishments. For the Japanese edition in 2025, a total of 243 establishments were recognized, including 108 with Michelin stars and 135 designated as 'Selected.'
