Trade Academy Expands Accessibility to Trade Careers with New Scholarship Program
As the United States faces an increasing need for skilled labor in the trades, Trade Academy is stepping up to meet this demand by opening applications for its scholarship program. This initiative aims to provide financial support and resources to students aspiring to enter critical fields such as plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning).
Launched by the nonprofit organization Trade Academy, this scholarship program is a crucial part of addressing the urgent shortage of skilled labor that has plagued the trades industry for years. Notably, since its inception in 2021, the scholarship program has awarded over $250,000 in financial assistance to individuals nationwide, demonstrating a strong commitment to fostering the next generation of tradespeople.
Roland Ligtenberg, co-founder of Housecall Pro—an essential partner in the initiative—emphasized the transformative nature of these scholarships. He stated, "The biggest barrier to entering the trades isn't lack of interest anymore, it's lack of access. These scholarships turn 'I can't afford trade school' into 'I'm starting my career.'" By providing the tools, training, and financial support necessary for success, Trade Academy helps demystify the path to a high-paying career in the trades.
The Trade Academy Scholarship program has partnered with over 114 trade schools across the nation, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training that is current and technology-focused. This partnership allows instructors to provide relevant education grounded in the realities of today's job market, ultimately equipping students with the skills needed to excel in their chosen fields.
Earlier this year, Trade Academy distributed $125,000 in scholarships to 50 recipients who were selected from over 1,100 applicants spanning ages 16 to 72. This diverse range of participants underscores the growing enthusiasm for careers in skilled trades, offering a testament to the program's effectiveness in resonating with those looking to secure their futures in these vital professions.
Each scholarship recipient not only receives financial support for their tuition but also gains access to Trade Academy's extensive network of mentors, instructors, and employers. Originally focused on HVAC students, the program has since expanded to encompass the electrical and plumbing fields as well, broadening its impact across the residential service industry.
"Skilled trades attract people who like to build, fix, and solve," Ligtenberg noted. The influence of effective mentorship, whether in a lab or on a job site, can dramatically alter a student's career trajectory. Trade Academy aims to send a strong message: these professions are essential, lucrative, and worthy of investment.
