Kids Money School Launches New Investment Program for Children

A New Investment Adventure for Kids

In October 2025, Japan will witness a significant milestone as the Nikkei stock average is projected to surpass 50,000 points for the first time in history. This development reflects a new era for the Japanese economy, prompting a growing interest in financial education among families. In this context, the Japan Children's Resilience Development Association, represented by President Koji Miura, has announced the preview launch of their new investment education program, “Momotaro’s Adventure of Treasures (Tentative)”, aimed at children aged 4 to 8.

Overview of the Program

Set against the beloved backdrop of the classic Japanese tale 'Momotaro', this program introduces the concepts of investment and money management to young minds in an engaging and relatable way. Through a hands-on workshop format, children will learn how money can grow while cultivating positive associations with financial literacy.

The Growing Need for Financial Education

As economic policies emphasizing growth continue to garner attention, families are increasingly focusing on crucial topics like “asset formation” and “investment.” A recent exploration into the demand for children's financial education revealed that requests for programs from the Japan Children's Resilience Development Association accelerated by over 150% compared to the previous year. A commissioned survey by GOEN, the organization responsible for operating the Kids Money School, found that 98% of parents recognize the necessity of financial education for their children; however, 35% reported that they currently have no initiatives in place. This highlights the disconnect many parents feel in providing essential knowledge about money management at home.

Alongside the preschool program, the Kids Money School also offers a “Children’s Investment Challenge” designed for older children in grades 4 to 6. This initiative provides practical insights into the mechanics of investment and foundational concepts of asset formation. Children actively engage in a game format to learn various investment strategies such as “concentrated investments,” “diversification,” and “opportune sell-offs.”

Parental Support Initiatives

While children participate in hands-on activities, parents can attend mini-seminars focused on “allowance education” and “future financial preparatory measures for children,” supporting continued learning within households. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Children expressed newfound respect for even a single yen and an understanding of the importance of valuing money that comes from their parents' hard work. Parents appreciated the practical insights the event provided, especially regarding how to explain financial concepts to their kids.

Future Developments

In line with government goals to raise the percentage of individuals receiving financial and economic education from the current 7% to 20% by the end of fiscal year 2028, the demand for financial education in Japan continues to grow. In this landscape, the Kids Money School will continue to expand and enhance its offerings to ensure children learn about finance through enjoyable experiences.

The organization plans to increase the number of events nationwide and strengthen online teaching opportunities to reach children in less accessible regions. This strategic expansion aims to provide equitable financial education that meets the needs of all families, regardless of location.
