Raytheon Begins Construction on Significant Facility Expansion
Raytheon, a key player in the defense industry and part of RTX, has officially started construction on a substantial expansion of its Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) production facility located in Andover, Massachusetts. This ambitious initiative involves an investment of $53 million and encompasses a 23,000 square-foot augmentation to the existing facility.
The LTAMDS is a modern radar system specifically designed to counter sophisticated threats, including hypersonic weapons. The added space and upgrades will allow Raytheon to boost its production capabilities significantly, thereby expediting the delivery timeline for these next-generation defense technologies to both domestic and international customers. Tom Laliberty, who serves as the president of Land and Air Defense Systems at Raytheon, emphasized, "This vital investment will significantly bolster our ability to meet the growing global demand for LTAMDS. The expansion will accelerate delivery of this critical radar to U.S. and international customers, ensuring they are equipped with the most advanced defense technology available."
Currently, this Andover facility is instrumental in the final integration of the LTAMDS radar, serving as the pivotal point for both U.S. and international clients. The facility also conducts testing for the Patriot missile system, thereby playing a crucial role in the operational readiness of these defense solutions.
Raytheon's Andover campus has a rich history, having been established in 1980. The expansion project is expected to be completed by late 2026, further establishing the site as a hub of advanced defense technology manufacturing.
