JAL and Bandai Namco Team Up for a Unique Project to Inspire Future Generations

JAL and Bandai Namco: Inspiring Future Generations through GUNDAM

Japan Airlines (JAL), along with its partners, including J-EAR and Kansai Airport, has embarked on a unique initiative titled "JAL x GUNDAM FLY TO THE FUTURE PROJECT," which aims to inspire the younger generation by connecting them with the concept of the future through the iconic GUNDAM experience. This collaboration is aligned with the upcoming 2025 World Expo in Osaka and Kansai, particularly focusing on the GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION.

Programs for Educational Experience

The initiative includes an experiential learning program for children, where the allure of aviation and environmental consciousness will be emphasized. This program aims to provide opportunities for kids to understand the importance of environmental protection while enjoying their flight experience. As part of this project, children will receive a special eco-friendly model kit, known as the "Eco-Plar 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Assembly Experience Version," which is made from recycled materials collected from the GUNDAM plastic model recycling project.

This program is designed not only to engage children in model building but also to instill a sense of sustainability and environmental awareness. Each child receiving the Eco-Plar model will also obtain informative materials from JAL's environmental education program called "Hidden Sustainability." This educational resource is packaged in a worksheet format, providing a fun and engaging way to learn about eco-conscious travel.

Event Highlights

Distribution Schedule

The Eco-Plar model will be available from August 1, 2025, until supplies run out. This offering is aimed at elementary school students up to the third grade who fly on J-EAR routes. The model will be distributed onboard flights to interested children, making it a delightful surprise for young passengers.

Special Event at Osaka International Airport

On August 30, 2025, JAL will host a themed event at the Osaka International (Itami) Airport, open to elementary school children and their parents (aged 20 and above). This event promises to be an exciting day filled with hands-on activities, including a GUNDAM model building workshop taught by expert mechanics. Furthermore, attendees will get to experience a tour on the special “JAL x GUNDAM Restaurant Bus,” which runs through restricted airport areas, guided by J-EAR pilots.

GUNDAM Bus Experience

The restaurant bus, two stories high and reaching approximately 3 meters, features designs that connect to the GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION. It showcases a new model - RX-78F00/E Gundam equipped with GLASS FEATHER – and incorporates designs from the Expo's official character, Myakumyaku. Together with the JAL GUNDAM jet, this initiative fosters a broader expectation for a promising future, connecting communities across Japan.

Future Prospects

JAL and Bandai Namco are committed to nurturing curiosity and potential in the younger generation through the continuing efforts of the "JAL x GUNDAM FLY TO THE FUTURE PROJECT." This exciting partnership not only enriches the future of child engagement but also spreads awareness regarding sustainability in a context relatable to youngsters, all while celebrating the beloved GUNDAM franchise.

Ultimately, this initiative symbolizes a forward-thinking approach where aviation meets culture and technology, providing an unforgettable experience for the leaders of tomorrow. With many exciting elements lined up, participants can look forward to exploring the enchanting universe of GUNDAM while contemplating their role in shaping the future of our planet.
