Upcoming Performances for the 20th Anniversary of Suginami Public Hall
Suginami Public Hall has a rich history since its establishment in 1957, serving as a venue for a wide variety of performances including classical orchestras, jazz concerts, and televised events. After undergoing a complete renovation in 2006, it reopened with a focus on “harmony of light and wind,” and boasts exceptional acoustics that enhance the concert experience.
As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the hall's reopening in 2026, its theme is “Thank you for 20 years, and toward the next great experience.” The upcoming season will feature a range of delightful concerts, including performances from renowned orchestras and soloists.
Japan Philharmonic 2026-2027 Series
The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, based at Suginami Public Hall, took a significant step in 2025 with its inaugural Suginami Regular Concert. This is a pivotal year as it marks not only the 20th anniversary of the hall but also the 70th anniversary of the orchestra, promising grander programs featuring acclaimed artists.
Piano Concertos with Esteemed Pianists
Expect exceptional performances at the upcoming Suginami Regular Concerts, where prominent pianists like Michiko Ozawa, Fumiaki Mišikawa, and Naoko Kawamura will perform revered pieces:
- - Concert No.81: May 10, featuring Beethoven’s Piano Concertos No. 3 and 5 with conductor Kenichiro Kobayashi and soloist Michiko Ozawa.
- - Concert No.82: July 5, highlighting Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 conducted by Tomomi Nishimoto with pianist Fumiaki Mišikawa.

In November, renowned conductor Muneaki Matsumoto will debut at Suginami as he leads the concert featuring violinist Kaori Oe as they explore Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and Brahms' Symphony No.1, celebrating emerging artists who are shaping the future of classical music.
Concert No.85
This winter, conductor Junichi Hirokami will return to Suginami to present a special feature on themes from popular Japanese historical dramas, complemented by celebrated cellist Yuya Mizuno, who is notable for being the first Asian winner of the Prague Spring International Music Competition.
A Special Presentation of Beethoven's Ninth
Anticipation builds for Concert No.86, which will feature a rare performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony by the former principal conductor of Japan Philharmonic, Yukio Fujioka, accompanied by four vocal soloists and the Tokyo University of the Arts Choir.
Celebrating with Special Events
In addition to these highlights, Suginami Public Hall will host various special events to commemorate its 20 years. Events like the renowned Vienna Boys' Choir performing a diverse selection of operatic and contemporary works, celebrating their 100th international tour, will also be part of the celebration. Additionally, the
4 Players Tokyo string quartet will return for fans to enjoy chamber music at its finest.
