Changzhou's Journey Towards Becoming a Global Renewable Energy Hub
On September 13, 2025, Changzhou, Jiangsu, hosted the International New Energy Exhibition 2025, unveiling its commitment to transformative energy solutions. The event kicked off under the motivating theme “New Energy, New Power, New Changzhou,” attracting a convergence of industry leaders and enthusiasts.
During this significant occasion, attendees celebrated the completion of 33 major agreements that collectively inject over 33.7 billion yuan into the renewable energy sector. This represents a substantial stride toward Changzhou's objective of establishing itself as a preeminent destination for renewable energy development.
Wang Jianfeng, Secretary of the Changzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), articulated the city’s ambitions during his opening remarks. He highlighted the 15th Five-Year Plan, aimed at preserving Changzhou’s leadership in manufacturing while fostering advancements in applied technologies. The ultimate goal is to cultivate a renewable energy powerhouse that not only champions sustainable practices but also enhances global competitiveness.
In recent years, Changzhou has successfully crafted a comprehensive renewable energy industry chain. This extensive chain includes five critical aspects: generation, storage, transmission, utilization, and integration into the energy grid. The city's achievements are remarkable; last year, the renewable energy sector reached over 850 billion yuan in output, and is on track to surpass the 1 trillion yuan milestone this year.
The 2025 expo also featured a unique “dual-IP” approach, intertwining sports with technology and innovation. Coinciding with the exhibition, the 11th round of the Jiangsu City Football League took place at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Center, pitting local team Changzhou against Suqian in front of more than 40,000 passionate fans. Despite a narrow loss for Changzhou at 2-1, the event drew significant community engagement, showcasing the fervor and spirit of the city.
Zhou Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and the Mayor of Changzhou, noted that this alignment between the renewable energy industry and the Jiangsu City Football League signifies a new era for industrial growth and community involvement in Changzhou. His call to action extended to entrepreneurs, scientists, investors, and innovators worldwide, inviting them to contribute to Changzhou's vision of a sustainable future. The blend of sports and industry exemplifies how Changzhou is not only focusing on economic development but is also enhancing community life through engaging activities.
The future looks promising for Changzhou as it pushes boundaries in the renewable energy landscape. With concerted efforts from the municipality and collaboration from global partners, the city is well on its way to solidifying its status as a global leader in renewable energy technologies. The commitment to innovation and sustainability can transform Changzhou into a model for cities worldwide, where the balance between industrial progress and environmental stewardship is achieved. As Changzhou strides further into this ambitious endeavor, its vision promises to empower future generations with greener and cleaner energy solutions.
