BYD Expands into Europe with New Headquarters in Hungary



In a major strategic move, BYD, the prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced the establishment of its European headquarters and a research and development hub in Hungary. This decision was unveiled by BYD's CEO and President, Wang Chuanfu, during a press conference held in Budapest alongside Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

The new headquarters is not just a symbolic move; it is expected to generate nearly 2,000 jobs in various sectors including sales, after-sales service, vehicle testing, certification, and development of localized vehicles. This expansion indicates BYD's commitment to enhancing its presence in the European market, which has been increasingly important for the electric vehicle sector.

Hungary's strategic location and its existing infrastructure as a hub for automotive manufacturing within Europe make it an optimal choice for BYD. Currently, this facility marks BYD's fifth operation in Hungary, complementing its existing bus factory in Komárom and additional installations in Fót, Páty, and the upcoming car manufacturing plant in Szeged.
