Buckingham Expands Employee Benefits Expertise with New Partner Patrick J. Egan
Buckingham Welcomes Patrick J. Egan as Partner
On September 18, 2025, Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLC made an exciting announcement: the firm has welcomed Patrick J. Egan as a new Partner at their Cleveland office. With over twenty years of experience in the field of employee benefits and executive compensation law, Egan’s arrival is set to bolster the firm's capabilities in navigating complex legal topics under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Patrick's expertise lies in the design, administration, and legal compliance concerning tax-qualified retirement plans, as well as health and welfare benefit programs. His profound understanding of ERISA regulations positions him to deliver strategic, proactive guidance for employers, assisting them in meeting fiduciary responsibilities and avoiding potential compliance issues that could lead to costly penalties.
Steven Dimengo, the Managing Partner at Buckingham, expressed his enthusiasm for Egan’s addition, stating, "Patrick's extensive ERISA experience and practical approach to solving benefit-related challenges make him a tremendous asset to our team and our clients. This addition reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in a top-tier Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice."
Beyond his capabilities with general benefit plans, Egan also specializes in advising companies on executive compensation arrangements, which include non-qualified deferred compensation programs, employment contracts, and equity incentive plans. His versatile experience extends to managing employee benefit-related challenges during mergers and acquisitions, ensuring smooth transitions while minimizing associated risks for clients.
Egan also focuses on union-sponsored multiemployer pension plans and offers advice aimed at reducing withdrawal liability assessments. Known for his collaborative approach and clear communication skills, he has established a reputation for helping clients navigate complex legal terrains confidently and effectively.
He earned his Juris Doctor from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Duquesne University, complemented by a Bachelor of Arts in History/Pre-law from Moravian University. Patrick is admitted to practice law in Ohio and has the distinction of being eligible to represent clients before the United States Supreme Court.
