MetLife Foundation Supports Five Organizations in Japan for Sustainable Society

In a significant move towards addressing societal issues in Japan, MetLife Foundation has decided to allocate approximately $1.4 million to support five organizations. This initiative, announced by Dirk Osteen, the President and CEO of MetLife Insurance Co., aims to collaborate with groups that share the vision of creating a society where everyone can live safely and equitably.

The MetLife Foundation focuses on achieving economic mobility across three key areas: financial inclusion, financial health, and strong communities. These priorities guide the Foundation's efforts globally, enabling various organizations to address pressing social challenges. In the context of Japan, as the nation confronts various aging society-related issues, MetLife's support becomes increasingly relevant.

Supported Organizations

1. The University of Tokyo
This institution will conduct research in four critical areas: frailty prevention, dementia prevention, wellbeing, and the connectivity between urban and rural communities. The aim is to address the unique challenges posed by Japan's super-aging society.

2. Waffle
This non-profit organization aims to eliminate the gender gap in Japan's technology sector by providing programming education to high school and university students. Empowering youth through technology education is crucial for fostering an inclusive future.

3. Save the Children Japan
This organization focuses on supporting high school students from economically disadvantaged households in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, as well as children affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake and the Okunoto heavy rains in Ishikawa Prefecture. Their efforts include enhancing educational opportunities for at-risk youth.

4. The Ikusei Age Network
This accredited NPO provides vocational training and career consultations to young individuals facing employment challenges. By fostering social independence, they play a vital role in enabling youth to thrive despite adversities.

5. The Daikichi Foundation
Focused on evaluating and recognizing educational support organizations for economically disadvantaged children, this foundation works to create a platform that offers quality support to more children in need.

Japan's aging population presents a myriad of challenges that significantly impact future generations, including children and local communities. MetLife Foundation, along with its partners, strives to work towards a sustainable society where everyone can lead healthy and fulfilling lives. Through its initiatives, the company remains dedicated to supporting those in challenging situations, reflecting its role as a life insurance provider that genuinely cares about people's lives.
