DP World Delivers SailGP Fleet to Southampton Amidst Net-Zero Emissions Goals
On July 18, 2025, DP World, known as the Global Smart Logistics Partner for SailGP, successfully delivered high-performance F50 catamarans along with their equipment to the Port of Southampton. This important delivery makes way for the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix event set to take place in Portsmouth on July 19 and 20, marking the anticipated return of this prestigious sailing league to British shores after a three-year hiatus.
The arrival of the SailGP equipment at DP World Southampton is a significant milestone not only for the league but also for the port, which aims to be the first in the UK to operate as a zero emission hub. The port is making strides in sustainability by utilizing 100% hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) for its handling equipment, resulting in a remarkable reduction of over 80% in net emissions. This initiative offers a glimpse into the future of port operations, aligning perfectly with global sustainability goals.
Mark Rosenberg, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of DP World Ports and Terminals, expressed pride in their key role in facilitating SailGP's worldwide racing schedule. “Our Southampton port serves as a strong example of how modern logistics can evolve. Our zero-emission net goal truly showcases our enthusiasm for progress and innovation, a sentiment we share closely with our partners at SailGP.”
This delivery reflects an ongoing partnership that allows DP World to manage the essential logistical infrastructure across multiple continents. From packaging and transporting the carbon fiber catamarans to coordinating port operations, DP World plays a critical role in ensuring that SailGP’s fleet arrives smoothly at twelve events around the globe this season.
After arriving in Southampton, the F50 catamarans and their accompanying infrastructure were transported to Portsmouth, where they are set to participate in the grand event starting on July 19. Crowds of fans are expected to flock to the event along the southern coast, and DP World’s logistical expertise ensures that the fleet is well-prepared and on schedule for the race.
“The return to the UK for the first time in three years is thrilling for the entire SailGP team,” said Fiona Morgan, Chief Purpose Officer of SailGP. “We are looking forward to racing in front of British fans once again, and it’s fantastic to be collaborating with DP World to transport the SailGP fleet and equipment through the UK’s first zero-emission port hub.”
Morgan emphasized that the partnership exemplifies what can be achieved when sports and industry collaborate effectively. As the sailing series continues its journey around the world, DP World’s supply chain expertise will remain crucial in ensuring the championship runs smoothly behind the scenes.
