2025 Allstate America's Best Drivers Report Highlights Safe and Risky Driving Cities

2025 Allstate America's Best Drivers Report

The latest iteration of the Allstate America's Best Drivers Report, released in June 2025, sheds light on the safest and riskiest cities for drivers across the United States. The report shows Texas taking the lead with four cities making it into the top 20 safest spots, with Brownsville reclaiming its title as the safest city to drive in the country.

The report, which has been published annually since 2005, analyzes collision data and provides insights just in time for summer travel. Surely, as Americans gear up for summer road trips, understanding safe driving practices becomes imperative.

Key Findings

According to Sandee Lindorfer, Allstate's vice president of auto claims, the data underscores the importance of safe driving:

“No matter where you drive, protecting yourself and others is straightforward: buckle up, stay focused, and reduce your speed.”

East Coast vs. West Coast: Collision Rates

Interestingly, seven out of the top ten cities with the highest collision rates reside on the East Coast. Rampant collision rates were noted in cities like Boston, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia. However, the West Coast makes its presence known too; Los Angeles, Glendale, and Oakland are not far behind in the rankings of risky driving environments.

Texas: A Rising Star in Safe Driving

Beyond just Brownsville, Texas showcases several safer driving environments. With cities like Laredo, McAllen, and Corpus Christi also featured in the top 20, a total of 21 cities across Texas—including major metropolitan areas like Austin and Dallas—have improved their standings significantly over the past decade.

Positive Changes in the Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest continues to see a positive trend with reduced collision rates. Notably, Bellevue, Washington, has made remarkable progress, climbing 133 places since 2015 to become the city with the most substantial improvement. Cities such as Anchorage and Portland are also showing significant advancements in driving safety.

Midwest Challenges

Contrastingly, several cities in the Midwest have faced notable declines in road safety. St. Louis experienced a steep drop of 90 positions in the rankings, now sitting at 175. Des Moines, Iowa, and Kansas City, Missouri, also fell fiercely, reflecting troubling trends in these regions. This downturn highlights an increasing divide in driving safety metrics across the nation.

Risky Cities on the Rise

While the average city has observed a modest decrease in collision rates since 2015, the disparity between the safest and riskiest environments is widening. Even among cities in the most collision-prone categories, several have experienced accidents rising more than 25% from their rates eight years ago.

Methodology

The 2025 Allstate America's Best Drivers Report is derived from a comprehensive analysis of auto claims data to assess the likelihood of drivers experiencing accidents in the 200 most populous cities in the U.S. The average American driver faces a collision once every 10.56 years. This year's analysis covered claims made between January 2022 and December 2023, utilizing U.S. Census data to establish the cities in question.

The findings of this report aim to foster a national dialogue around driving safety and emphasize the importance of vigilance on the roads. It serves as a beneficial resource, without influencing auto insurance rates directly.
