Los Defensores and Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation Launch 2026 Scholarships for Latino Law and Journalism Students

Los Defensores and the Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation Announce 2026 Scholarships

Los Defensores, a reputable brand connecting the Latino community with legal support throughout the United States, has announced the opening of its 2026 Scholarship Program in collaboration with the Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation (JBJF). This initiative underscores their commitment to Latino students from historically underserved communities in Southern California. The organization has contributed nearly $200,000 in scholarships since 2019 as part of their community initiative called Siempre Contigo.

Application Details

The scholarship applications are open now until July 24, 2026, for undergraduate students in California who are pursuing degrees in law and journalism. This year's theme, "The Power of Belief," highlights the transformational impact of being seen, supported, and valued. Hearing someone say, "I believe in you"—especially from a trusted mentor—can be pivotal in a student's journey. It stimulates resilience, fosters self-confidence, and reinforces that a student's dreams are worth pursuing.

Through this partnership, Los Defensores aims to actively invest in the next generation of Latino leaders. The commitment extends beyond legal accessibility, translating into actionable support within the community. The goal is to help close educational gaps and provide assistance to future lawyers and journalists, fields where Latino stories and perspectives are urgently needed.

The Importance of Support

"At Los Defensores, we understand that behind every dream is a community ready to fight for it," stated Ariela Nerubay, Brand Director at Los Defensores. "The Power of Belief isn't just a slogan—it's our commitment. When a student faces doubts, financial obstacles, or the pressure of being the first in their family to pursue higher education, we want them to know that we see them, stand by them, and believe in their potential. Supporting scholarships is one of the most powerful ways to embody our brand—because true strength comes from uplifting others and reminding them that everything is possible with the right support."

Jaime Jarrín, a Hall of Fame broadcaster, emphasized the importance of investing in young people's education to build stronger communities. "When we invest in the education of our youth, we are investing in vibrant, strong communities for everyone," said Jarrín. This reflects the foundation's mission to empower the next generation of change makers through scholarship opportunities that make a difference for students in need.

Current JBJF scholarship recipient Atilio Sagara from the University of Southern California shared, "Receiving the JBJF scholarship has been an incredible boost to my confidence and my future. People doubted me—saying it was too difficult, that I didn't belong there. However, I proved them wrong by completing my first year at USC. I want to give back to my community, and this scholarship brings me closer to that goal."
