This event celebrated the topping out of the Moffitt Discovery and Innovation Center and the installation of a cyclotron, which will support the region's first proton therapy system at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Proton Center.

The installation of the cyclotron was a notable highlight, having traveled over 4,600 miles from Belgium. This state-of-the-art ProteusONE proton therapy system is set to revolutionize cancer treatment by offering unparalleled precision. By targeting tumors with millimeter accuracy, it aims to mitigate side effects and improve patient outcomes significantly. Once operational, this facility will be the most advanced proton therapy center in the Tampa Bay region.

Hammes is not only managing the campus's new 120,000-square-foot outpatient and proton facility but also overseeing the development of a 240,000-square-foot research center. This cutting-edge hub will focus on critical areas such as drug development, bioengineering, metabolism, and cancer biology. The new facilities are expected to open in January 2026, positioning Moffitt's Speros campus as a global center for innovation in cancer care and research.

Earlier this year, Hammes also celebrated the completion of the Moffitt Cancer Center at SouthShore, a 75,000-square-foot ambulatory center located in Ruskin, Florida, south of Tampa.
