Circular Services Breaks Ground on New Facility
On March 18, 2025, Circular Services held a ceremonial groundbreaking for its impressive new recycling facility located in Frisco, Texas. This facility, estimated at $61 million and stretching over 120,000 square feet, represents a significant advancement in recycling capabilities for the McKinney and Frisco regions and the greater Dallas metroplex.
Joaquin Mariel, Chief Commercial Officer at Circular Services, underscored the importance of this project during the event. He stated that a decade of planning has gone into this initiative, emphasizing the need for enhanced recycling infrastructure in North Texas. Mariel has been part of Balcones Recycling, a subsidiary within Circular Services, driving the effort to build a local ecosystem that embraces a circular economy. According to him, this facility is a direct response to the rapid population growth and the accompanying demand for effective recycling solutions.
“This project is pivotal for the future of recycling in North Texas,” Mariel commented. “We focus not only on integrating advanced recycling technologies but also on fostering employee well-being and community engagement. Our aim is to set a new standard for sustainability and operational efficiency.”
Key figures from the City of Frisco and McKinney were present at the ceremony, including Mayor Jeff Cheney and Mayor George Fuller. They highlighted the facility’s potential impact on regional recycling efforts and the anticipated economic benefits it will bring to the community. The new recycling facility is specifically designed to align with the population's growth and the rising demand for effective waste management services.
Key Features of the New Facility
The facility is engineered to meet ambitious diversion goals set for the region. It will feature:
- - Innovative Sorting Technology: To maximize recovery rates, ensuring materials are effectively recycled.
- - Energy Efficient Design: The infrastructure will incorporate solar panels, passive lighting, and native landscaping aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.
- - Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles: This amenity reinforces the facility's commitment to sustainability.
- - Public Drop-off Center: Residents will have a dedicated space to recycle materials beyond the residential curbside pickup.
Upon its expected operational launch in Spring 2026, the facility is projected to create around 53 full-time environmental jobs. Notably, the facility intends to process single-stream recyclables from the surrounding communities, facilitating the sale of recycled products predominantly within North America.
