FamilyMart Introduces iPhone My Number Card Services for Easy Document Issuance

In an exciting development enhancing convenience for customers, FamilyMart, a leading convenience store chain based in Tokyo, is set to allow the use of the My Number Card through iPhones starting June 24, 2025. This service, developed in collaboration with the Digital Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Local Government Digital Agency, enables users to access various administrative services without needing to visit government offices or manually enter their PINs.

Users can easily add their My Number Card to the Apple Wallet on their iPhones, streamlining the process of accessing essential certificates like residence certificates and seal registration certificates at FamilyMart's multi-copying machines. Specifically, the machine model, MX-3631DS, will be equipped to facilitate this new service.

The process is straightforward. Customers can navigate the touchscreen of the multi-copying machine, selecting options such as 'Copy Service,' 'Government Services,' and 'Certificate Issuance Services (Convenience Store Issuance).' After following the prompts to reach the 'Smartphone/Card Set Screen,' it's time to display their My Number Card via their iPhone.

To present their My Number Card, users will simply double-click the side button on the iPhone, select the My Number Card, authenticate via Face ID or Touch ID, and then hold their device to the reader. Following this, they can select the type of certificate they wish to obtain, insert the required payment into the coin mechanism, and receive their documents efficiently without any hassle.

The service is available daily from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM, making it accessible for most users. The following certificates will be issued:
  • - Copy of Residence Certificate
  • - Seal Registration Certificate
  • - Family Register Certificate
  • - Transcript of Family Register
  • - Tax Certificates

Prices for document issuance vary depending on municipality.

For users concerned about the security aspect of using the My Number Card on their iPhones, Apple ensures that customer information is controlled and protected through robust design. The Apple Wallet ID incorporates security features that physical IDs cannot provide, maintaining user privacy while delivering a secure platform for mobile identity verification. Only after successful Face ID or Touch ID authentication is any personal data shared with the multi-copying machine and relevant services. Also, any historical data regarding the user’s ID presentations is encrypted and stored solely on their device, ensuring Apple does not have access to this information.

If a user misplaces their iPhone, they can utilize the 'Find My' app to lock the device and track its location. Additionally, they can remotely erase their device if needed, thereby safeguarding their data.

Apple Wallet ID is aligned with comprehensive privacy protection standards, including the ISO 18013-5 and ISO 23220 series, ensuring users have peace of mind regarding their information.
